Hey Everyone,
I finally got around to assembling my wort chiller hoses and what-not... I know people
have talked about problems with the fittings due to the different contraction rates of
copper and vinyl. I went to home depot and talked with the guy from the fixture/plumbing
department [who asked me immediately if I was running a still] and he showed me how to
setup a water tight seal w/o flanging/flaring anything. It uses compression fittings. It
cost about $20 for the fittings and it hooks right up to my utility tub's faucet.
I used it on two batches at "maximum" water pressure I could force through it...
Took about 15-20 minutes to cool the brew -- no problems. I also attached my air
compressor into one end and plugged the other prior to actually using it and could force
no air through. It took at bout 5 minutes to assemble, using nothing but two wrenches.
It's really amazing -- the "handy-men" i brewed with yesterday didn't
think it would work at all and had never heard of compression fittings before.
Here are the parts:
Fittings:
031949145156 NAIRFLT16X - 2.97 -- clamps to chiller & tube [outgoing]
031949145156 NAIRFLT16X - 2.97 -- clamps to chiller & tube [incoming]
048643070707 Union - 2.68 -- Joins Chiller & Tube Connections
048643070790 3/8x1/2CMP - 2.32 -- Connects Tube to Adapter Connection
048643070707 Union - 2.68 -- Joins Chiller & Tube Connections
550434 Adapter - 3.68 -- For your Faucet
Hose:
048643025639 3/8" Vinyl Tubing - 2.56 -- I think it was about 10'
Hope that helps anybody out that was having problems with their wort chiller and
contraction.
Regards,
Ryan
