Former MhBA club president Rick Oftel has been in touch with the former president of the MHBA (Minnesota Hobby Beekeeper's Association) and has wrangled a deal to buy honey from him for $99 for 5 gallons (60 lbs).  That's less than $2/lb of honey - VERY reasonable, if you've bought honey from NB or Midwest lately.

He has 20 buckets available - first 20 people responding to Rick with an order takes them.  I presume they will be delivered to Rick's house, and you will have to pick them up there.  Contact  Rick.Oftel@toro.com

Subject: Honey Info

Al and Curt,

Here is what I just received from Dave.  Ironically, Dave is the president of the MHBA (Minnesota Hobby Beekeeper Association).  The first paragraph is his description of the honey and the

second paragraph is some general info regarding keeping hives.

Beer Club price $99/5 gallon bucket.  Currently 20 buckets filled and additional honey available.

Clover/Basswood honey. I did get some this last year that was a little darker (more wildflower type from one of my yards), but believe I’m done with that now.  My hives are mostly around the Pine City, Rush City area and I have another 25 hives located by our lake home in the Park Rapids area.

General Bee Information:  As to having a hive or two, there are many people looking for someone to keep bees on their property here in the twin cities. I don’t know if you know it, but I’m the current President of the Minnesota Hobby Beekeepers Association. I get plenty of people looking for someone to place a couple of hives on their property. Now since the general public has become much more aware of the bee problem, many people have opened their land to beekeepers to try and help the environment. There are also several of the cities who have recently changed their ordinances or have decided that they were no longer are going to enforce their ordinance for be related issues. So you might want to check your local municipality again to see where they stand, if you have not done so recently. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Rick Oftel
