Within walking distance, there is nothing less expensive, and plenty
that is more expensive, since it is across the street from the Rosemont
Convention Center. This is an area similar to the airport/Mall Of
America area in the Twin Cities, though our Woodfield just doesn't have
quite the tourist appeal of your MofA. This Holiday Inn is on a strip
that includes Doubletree, Embassy Suites, Sofitel, and an enormous and
witheringly expensive Hyatt. Though there are cheaper motels a bit of a
ways away, they're not easily staggerable to. We are already in "the
cheap place to stay" when you are at a meeting in this area.
WE STRONGLY DISCOURAGE people from making any arrangement that requires
that they must drive a car away from conference events! Illinois is a
no-nonsense state for D.U.I., and the suburbs in particular take glee in
incarcerating overserved out-of-towners. If you are legal to drive (.08)
you have not properly appreciated a BEER conference. (So, I'm glad you
framed the question "within walking distance".)
To save money, share rooms - us locals are staying in the hotel and
sharing.
And, hey, it's great that you are serious enough about coming that this
is even a question!

I pulled details from the website for our newsletter due out shortly. I
will be attending although driving down with my wife Sue. We would surely
follow the bus in case of any beer spills. We have family an hour or two
south and plan on visiting after the conference. The conference hotel would
be most convenient but I'm wondering if there is anything else within
walking distance, and less expensive. ( not likely close to the airport!)
I have appointed Steve P coordinator but everyone going needs to help out to
make our club presence as easy as possible. The bus idea is good. I
suspect it would be going down for the entire conference? We should set up
a planning meeting sometime before Christmas.

Subject: 2003 AHA Conference - Chicago
The Chicago Beer Society has a preliminary web page up for the 2003
National AHA Conference in Chicago June 19-21. Who's going? Anyone
interested in hiring a club bus? Anyone in the club a bus
driver (that
cares to make that trip?)
