Ladies and Gentlemen:

Get you plastic buckets ready, Mead Day is upon us!

National Mead Day!
Johnson Farm--23114 Variolite St., Elk River
10-2: mead demonstrations tour the beehives and honey extraction
facilities Sat, Aug 04 @ 10:00

The Johnsons have graciously invited us back to their apiary! Come
join the fun and see how a bee farm is run. From how bees are kept
through the honey extraction process, this is an event not to be missed!

Wilbur and Team Roadkill have made the bus available gain this year,
so if you'd like a ride please contact me ASAP to get your name on the
list. There are a limited number of seats, and the price for
transportation will rest on the number of participants.

The technical topic this month will be a discussion on properly
judging mead. It seems that there are always great fluctuations in
mead scores between different judges and different contests. Perhaps
by presenting some of the key aspects that make a great/poor mead
including flavor, aroma, acid balance etc we will get a more uniform
concept of judging.

Of course people will be making mead all day, so if you'd like to see
how it's done, or would like to partake in the making bring your
yeast, buckets and honey.

Cheers,

Jon Messier

P.S. - The cost of the bus will depend on the number of people we get to sign up.  If there are more than 10 people it should be under $20 per person.  The tentative meeting place is Midwest Supply parking lot at about 8:00 AM.  Space is limited to approximately 30 people, so don't wait to sign up.  Also as a thank you to Wilbur for being sober driver we are asking for beer and mead donations.
