Summit Brewery E-Newsletter - Fall 2013
Visit Summit Online Web Version FALL EDITION
  Message from Mark

Looking back at the Fall newsletter from two years ago, I was struck by this comment I made about our first Backyard Bash: “I have recovered very nicely, thank you. I guess my only issue is, as we plan our brewery expansion, we will lose some party space. So, let's tear up the grass for the next few years.”

Turns out, our expansion only made the party better! It was with great pride we opened up the doors to our brand new cellar and shared that beautiful, cool (literally), space with all the party goers. And the aforementioned grass? We got rid of the big tent and made it an open air affair, so there was plenty of grass tearing to go around. We had a great time partying in the sun with all of you. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, the success of our brewery is due to you, our loyal customers. Thank you for celebrating 27 years with us.

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS
Video Vault

Part of celebrating 27 years of craft beer is looking forward to the future. But we’re also looking back to our humble beginnings. We recently unearthed a couple of news story videos from the Summit archives and posted them to our YouTube page. Check out the clips featuring the original brewery on University Avenue and a baby-faced Mark Stutrud from WCCO and KARE 11.

Green Party

We’re proud to report that with 2,400 attendees at our Backyard Bash, we only generated 78.6 pounds of trash–that’s less than a half an ounce of trash per person, or approximately the same weight as seven beer bottle caps! By composting 1,120 pounds of material and recycling 340 pounds, nearly 95% of all waste generated at the event was diverted from the trash, saving valuable resources and reducing pollution. Cheers to making a difference!

Summit wins silver at 2013 Great American Beer Festival®

This past weekend we won a silver medal in the Extra Special Bitter category for our original British-Style IPA, which is being rebranded this fall as True Brit IPA. This is our eighth GABF medal since the brewery was founded in 1986. Congrats to the brewing team for their brewing excellence!
