Subject: Holiday Happy Hour
This Friday, November 16th, is the 2007 Northern Ale Stars Holiday Happy
Hour. We plan to meet at Fitgers Brewhouse beginning around 4:30-5:00-ish to
light the official NAS holiday season candle. We will meet in the upstairs
loft area of the brewhouse and hang out until
whenever. The Duluth Christmas
City of the North Parade begins a couple of hours later for those who would
like to head downtown and attend.
Next Brew-Ha-Ha Meeting:
The next meeting of volunteers for the Great Northern Brew-Ha-Ha homebrew
competition will be Wednesday December 5th at Database Queen Terry Sarnes
home (543 N 43rd Ave. W, Duluth, 218-349-8006), time TBA, but probably 6:00
PM. If you missed the first meeting and would like to help out, plan on
attending.
Magical Mystery Beers:
As noted in a previous e-mail, the Ale Stars will have booths at the Trust
in the Land (January 26th) and Uncorked (February 7th) events and be serving
home brew to promote the club and the hobby. Were still looking for
miscellaneous bottles of homebrew to serve for the Mystery Beer cooler. If
you have a few orphan bottles you would be willing to donate to a good
cause, contact Dan Slick (a.k.a. Mr. Beer) at
<mailto:slicker807@hotmail.com> slicker807(a)hotmail.com.
2008 Business Meeting & Election of Officers:
The 2008 NAS business meeting and election of officers will be Saturday,
January 12th at the Dubh Linn Pub beginning at 2:00 PM-ish. This is where we
will discuss all club business and set the direction the club will head for
the next two years. Bring your nominees, ideas, opinions
and of course
homebrew.
Its a Wally Wally Christmas:
Its that time of year again. Attached is an invitation to all club members
to Walt and Mo Pittacks annual Christmas extravaganza. There will be food,
games, dancers, marching bands and
of course
homebrew.
Whats on Tap Comrade Leinenkugel ?:
The Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company is rolling out a Russian Imperial
Stout as it continues to explore the "big beer" arena as part of its Big
Eddy line of brews. Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout, the second in the Big
Eddy series, hits select markets in Michigan and Wisconsin this week. In
Wisconsin, it will be available on draft at select bars noted for their
beer selection (whatever MillerCoors definition of that is). It will also
be available in 4-pack bottles in liquor stores and specialty supermarkets
(Pic-n-Save). In Michigan, Russian Imperial Stout will be available in
4-pack bottles only (sorry Brian and Tom).
Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout, at 9.5% alcohol by volume, boasts a
selection of eleven malts and grains, balanced by three distinct hops.
Munich, Caramel and Chocolate malts combine with classic Pale Ale malts to
provide a rich, dry character balancing Big Eddy's hoppy assertiveness
provided by Warrior, Summit and Glacier hops (no wonder theres a hop
shortage). The "Big Eddy" moniker is said to be derived from the name of the
spring that feeds the Leinenkugel brewery in Chippewa Falls, Wis
Im not
even going to touch that.
Cheers!
