Guys and Gals, This is a last minute invite to a brew-a-rama tonight at my place. The
brew starts late and ends really late. I decided to take advantage of the cool weather
and brew an ale.
The name "Pickle Barrel Porter" was coined as I opened up the plastic bucket of
base malt and noticed a faint but discernable aroma of dill. The pail was previously used
for commercial pickles. You'll have to wait and see if the aroma transfers into the
beverage.
The beer is big. It should weigh in around 1.080 - 1.090 and the IBU's are up there
too. Base malt is commercial with home roasted brown, store bought black and store bought
crystal 80. Hops include Fuggles (a bunch of fuggles) for the prime charge followed by
East Kent Golding for flavor, flavor, and aroma. So far, there will be about 4 hop
additions. Fell free to add more hops as the spirit moves you.
So I am finally getting back on track - brewing totally out of any style guidelines
although following a presumptuous porter recipe from Brew. This dark porter that may go
exceptionally well with bar pickles.
Call or stop by if you are interested. Knock out should occur between 10-11. Come around
back or call me on the phone.
