Jeff:
The Governor has not said he was going to veto the 2 A.M. bar closing
legislation because of the Growler provision. This is a portion of the
bill
that would allow bars to be open until 2 A.M. and liquor stores to be open
until 10 P.M. during the week.
The Governor stated early when the legislation was introduced that he would
support the legislation if the bodies of the House and Senate found
additional funding for police and state patrol expenses due to the law
change. The State Patrol is very thin for shifts from the 2-6 AM time
frames. With additional drivers on the road after bar closing we need to
make sure they will be able to protect and serve adequately.
The House and Senate are considering the funding to satisfy the Governor.
Without this funding the Governor will not sign the bill.
Once again, the Growler provision is a small portion of this bill and is
not
the controversial portion.
Thanks for writing Jeff.
