Beer Evangelist Class # 6
Symphony - With Josh Pepper - Tuesday 7th at 8:00pm.
It's been a while since we've had Josh here for a Beer Evangelist class, his newborn son, Charlie, has been taking up a lot of his time. Congrats to the Pepper family!
Here's a link to a video commercial that Josh has put together for this next class, it looks like it's going to be VERY interesting! Check it out on our Face Book Page.
This one will be first in first served! Email alvey@thefourfirkins.com if you want to sign up, include the phrase Beer Evangelist in the subject line and tell us your name in the email. There are only 35 spots and this will sell out almost immediately!
Class is $15 per person.
If you can't link to the above video here's how Josh describes it:
Josh Pepper Beer Evangelist Class #6 - Symphony
Dan Pink, in his book A Whole New Mind, calls out six skills that will be vital in the coming right-brain Conceptual Age. They are: Design, Story, Symphony, Empathy, Play, and Meaning. In the Beer Evangelist classes, we have already explored Story, Empathy, and Play, and their importance in spreading the good news of Good Beer. Leave your left brain at home. In this new class, we will explore Symphony. Taking Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra as a framework, we will deconstruct the experience of beer into its orchestral "sections" - malt, hops, yeast and water (from woodwinds, strings, brass, and percussion). I'll pick out beers that exemplify the qualities of the different ingredients, and we'll rebuild the beer experience into a whole by sampling what I call "symphonic" beers - those that draw from all sections of the brewing orchestra.
Good luck!
Alvey
