MhBA IRISH RED WINNER: RICK OFTEL!

Congratulations to RICK OFTEL, whose Irish Red Ale wowed fans and critics alike at last night's BJCP Class! Rick's efforts have won him the right to represent the Minnesota Home Brewers Association at the American Homebrewer's Association National Club-Only Competition at the end of the month, hosted by MUGZ of Davenport, Iowa. A close Second Place was STEVE FLETTY, who should, if he's smart, talk the St. Paul Homebrewers Club into allowing him to send his entry on to represent their club. And an Atta'Boy to Mike Behrendt, Al Boyce, and John Longballa who also entered. John was so excited about the Club-Only competition, that he entered THREE DIFFERENT Irish Reds for the judges consideration! These five MhBA members are now in the running for MhBA "STYLE OF THE MONTH" Club award, announced at the club Christmas Party in December. The remaining styles for 2005 and their suggested "Brew-By" dates are: FEB: Cat 15A - Weizen - brew by 1/15 MAR: Cat 17 - Sour Beers (COC) - brew by 1/8 APR: Cat 13E - American Stout - brew by 2/12 MAY: Cat 1-23 - Extract Beers (COC) - brew by 3/12 JUN: Cat 15D - Roggenbier - brew by 4/9 JUL: Cat 14C - Imperial IPA - brew by 5/14 AUG: Cat 16 - Belgian/French Ales (COC) - brew by 6/11 SEP: Cat 3 - Euro Amber Lager (COC) - brew by 7/9 OCT: Cat 12C - Baltic Porter (COC) - brew by 8/13 NOV: Cat 18A - Belgian Blonde Ale - brew by 9/10 DEC: Cat 21B - Christmas Winter/Spiced Ale - brew by 10/8 Styles marked with (COC) are upcoming AHA National Club-Only competition beers - the next one is Sour Beers.
