I have advocated this for a long time. Restricting posting to
subscribers only effectively eliminates all spam on the Chicago Beer
Society list which I manage. It does impose a slight additional
administrative hassle, because you have to take action when somebody
changes their email address - you cannot just let forwarding take care
of it. But that's pretty minor, compared to be inundated with spam or
trying to keep spam-blocking software working.
