Wayne,
As far as my comments about Bandana Brewery go, gave it my honest review
as far as the environment goes. I personally do not enjoy listening to
someone howl out the words to a song, particularly new country songs, at
the top of their lungs while I'm trying to enjoy dinner with my
friends. What really baffled us is why they would have have Karaoke on
a Saturday night...
I support brewpubs wherever I can, Town Hall and Barley John's
especially -- I enjoy those places for the environment and the beer. If
they played a type of music I didn't enjoy or it was too loud or the
building was too cold or too hot or in any case, if I found the
environment unappealing, I think I should say so. I understand the beer
isn't ready, and yes, the beer makes about 45% of my overall judgment
[they were serving American Lager] with 25% going to food and 30% to
overall atmosphere.
I understand that Bob, isn't on this mailing list, but I think the
content of my last email will reach him. I believe any business owner
would tell you that he'd rather have a customer say "I'm not going to
give you my patronage because <reason>" rather that never say anything
at all.
We told the hostess that we weren't sticking around because of the
Karaoke. We also asked if they were going to do Karaoke every Saturday
night. She indicated that she wasn't sure.
My friends and I are going to try Bandana Brewing again, we're coming
back when the beer's ready. The environment threw us for a loop being
used to Barley John's, Blue Bricks, and Town Hall.
I'm not writing the place off -- I'm just providing my two cents.

Hi Ryan,
Don't close the place, even before it is pouring that great Dave Berg
brew. The place needs to create a revenue as soon as it can. Bob, the
owner, is trying to do that. He has many loyal customers and friends,
that are flocking to the place supporting him and his lovely wife.
He is doing something for these loyal people rather than letting them
just sit there. I (so was the Mid America crew and Damian Mc Conn) was
there last Monday night for Dave Berg's birthday. The food was great!!
My hats off to Ben, the cook. I sat and drank mass produced American
Lager even though it is not my favorite. I wanted to support this
place and celebrate a very close friends birthday. All the workers and
the owners closed the place up in celebration too. Bob, the
owner, wanted me pour 4 mini kegs of Lowenbrau O'fest and I did. The
owners are great people and plan to make this a place where all people
are welcome. Great beer, food and service will be the theme at the
Bandana Brewery!!! A great time is inevitable. Sometimes, we have to
nurture a starting business or it will die. This one is no different.
Try to frequent the place, giving Bob & Dave your input on what you
and your friends want. Please, don't give them bad "press" before they
have even opened and started brewing. There will be bands playing
soon, when all 14,000 plus square feet are opened to the public. There
will be no mass produced American Lagers sold then.
Ryan, I was at U Flecku, in Prague, this past May. The only had one
beer and polka music but I saw people of all ages, from many different
countries, from all walks of life and there was always a line to get
in. I'm sure there is a meaning in there somewhere.
Please, support this place and make your suggestions known but give it
a chance. We are running out of places to go.
While you are waiting the Bandana to get the good beer flowing, go to
Sam's Liquor in Mankato and get a few mini-kegs of Lowenbrau O'fest
for $9.91. Your friends will love it!!!
Merry Christmas to all!!
Cheers,
Hawkeye

Subject: Bad News for the Bandana Brewery
Speaking of Bandana Brewery -- I went in there on Saturday night
with a
group of about 6 of my friends that live in
Mankato.
We were going to eat dinner and have a few drinks at Bandana, but
nobody
wanted to stay because they were doing Country
Music Karaoke.
**COUNTRY
MUSIC KARAOKE** It also didn't help that
the in-house brew wasn't
going
to be done for another couple weeks.
So we ate at Grizzly's and then drank at Busters, three blocks away
from
Bandana [where I was stuck consuming Gin &
Tonics, due to the poor
beer
selection.]
I'm not sure what type of crowd Bandana is attempting to appeal to,
but
it's definitely not the young, college
crowd. Which is terribly
disappointing because since I started home brewing [ a year and a
half
ago ], I've turned at least two dozen
college-aged students in the
Mankato area to enjoying the taste of beer, and not so much the
quantity.
Perhaps, the brutal country music karaoke may only offend a fraction
of
> Mankato populous, but it's the fraction I associate with.
