A heads-up for the February "Annual Meeting".
At the annual meeting, the club is required by our by-laws to have elections
of the main officers, namely President, Vice-President, Secretary and
Treasurer. Every two-years we elect 2 At-Large Board Members. The by-laws
are available on the web site from the "About Us" page
For the last few years, we have had very quick elections with few
candidates. Mostly just 1 person for each position and everyone agrees.
I'd like to see if in 2011, we can get some more interested, newer members
to step up and take leadership roles. So, please think about putting your
name in as a candidate for President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer
. There is no requirement to submit anything to become a candidate. MHBA
doesn't even have an active Nomination Committee as stated in the by-laws.
Nominations can be accepted at the meeting as part of the election process,
as long as the candidate agrees to assume the role if elected. We can't
just assign the position to someone.
So, please give this some thought. Maybe you'd like to be an officer or
know someone who would be a good candidate.
MHBA also very much needs to have more members be more active. For example,
take responsibility for organizing a club meeting. Provide information to
the newsletter team. Give a technical topic or discuss a specific BJCP
style at a meeting. Organize the Club-Only Competition runoffs. Organize
the Master of Malt program each month. I think we need to have MHBA get
back to teaching about brewing more than just having drinking get-togethers.
BUT, the club needs people to help with this.
Thanks!

P.S. We don't yet have a meeting time or location. Stay tuned for that!
