Subject: THIRSTY Classic
The THIRSTY Classic is just around the corner. If you are interested in entering I have
attached an entry packet. Tell your friends about the event as well.
We will need workers for the day.
Stewards: People who assist the judges, check score sheets, help organize entries for
flights, etc.
Judges: Folks who have judged before and those who may be interested in learning.
Food: We furnish a lunch for the judges, so main dish, side dishes, desserts, cheese tray,
things along that line. I pick up bagels and coffee from Panera for the morning.

1. Judging
Judging at the THIRSTY Classic is something we take very seriously, but enjoy and have fun
doing. Our competition staff does the very best to draw BJCP-qualified judges and
professional
brewers to evaluate entries. At least two qualified judges will judge every entry. We will
store entries
upon receipt in a large walk-in refrigerator to minimize character changes. We will try to
minimize
handling to avoid disturbing bottle-conditioned beers with natural sedimentation.
Occasionally this is
unavoidable and scores for appearance may reflect this. Judging will take place Saturday,
May 14,
2011, at the Millstream Brewery located at 835 48th Avenue, Amana, IA.
THIRSTY is soliciting qualified judges and stewards. You will receive points for the Beer
Judge
Certification Program (BJCP). The THIRSTY Classic is a BJCP/AHA-sanctioned event. If you
would
like to participate as a judge or steward, please contact:
Judging Director Pete Diltz via E-mail at pdiltz(a)iowatelcom.net.
2. Score Sheet Return Policy
THIRSTY will process all score sheets promptly and return them in person, or via U.S.
Mail. We
will return score sheets to the address listed on the entry form. We will strive to post
the results on the
THIRSTY website (
http://www.thirstyhomebrew.org) as soon as possible.
3. THIRSTY Classic Category and BOS Awards
Winners will receive ribbons for first, second, and third place in each style category.
Judges are
solely responsible for determining whether an entry is deserving of a ribbon. The THIRSTY
Classic
Committee will combine categories and/or subcategories as necessary to maintain
competition
integrity. In general, we will require that there be at least six entries in a category
before we award a full
set of ribbons.
The THIRSTY Classic Committee will also award a distinctive Best of Show prize, the
Michael
Hansen memorial trophy The BOS round will consist of the entries taking 1st place in each
category. All
decisions of the judges, competition staff, and organizer will be final, without
exception.
