Subject: State Fair homebrew competition volunteer information
Hello!
Thank you all so much for volunteering for this weekends competition!
I have a preliminary judging schedule made up which you can see if you log into your registration information on the website. Know that things may change but if you are assigned to judge we expect to see you there! Please let me know if you are no longer available. Those that have signed up to steward will not be placed ahead of time, so please show up and we'll place you prior to the session starting.
Dinner will be served Friday, followed by Summit brewery beers, and raffle prizes. For those unable to make it Friday we'll save some raffle prizes for Saturday. Light breakfast and Lunch will also be provided Saturday. All judges will receive a state fair ticket and some complimentary Summit Brewery beers.
Speaking of Summit Brewery.... This year Chip and the lovely folks in charge are allowing us to use the training room as our judging headquarters! A/C for the win!
The training room is located in the Summit Brewery office building behind/east of the main brewery. Take a left after the train tracks before you enter the cul de sac and follow that to the smaller canning building (follow the beer pipeline). You can park back there or park in the main brewery lot and follow the beer pipeline through the grass to the training center. I've attached a map and there should be signage at the breweries main doors.
The address for Summit Brewery is 910 Montreal Circle, Saint Paul.
I've also attached a word document which lists the State Fair categories we will be using for this competition.
Please download the 2015 BJCP Beer Styles Application to your phone prior to the competition, as we won't have any printed out guidelines.
First time volunteers, please arrive 20 min prior to your session so you can attend a quick orientation for your judging or steward position and announcements.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
And please thank Chip, and all the other employees while there! They are awesome to let us use their space.
Reminder, please join us at the live Best of Show awards ceremony on Saturday August 27. The judging will begin at 11am and awards will follow on the MN Craft Brewers Guild stage in the horticulture building.
Thanks again and see you this weekend!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Summit Releases West London-Style Ale as Part of 30th Anniversary
Celebration
Party at Brit's Pub Aug. 7 to commemorate brewery's birthday
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Aug. 3, 2016) - Summit Brewing Company
<http://www.summitbrewing.com/> today announces the release of 30th
Anniversary West London-Style Ale
<http://www.summitbrewing.com/brews/30th-Anniversary-West-London-Style-Ale>
, the third of four celebratory beers in the brewery's 30th Anniversary
Series. The beer will be released at a Summit 30th Anniversary Celebration
from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7 at Brit's Pub in downtown Minneapolis.
The event will feature the inaugural tapping of West London-Style Ale served
alongside other Summit favorites, plus live music by Freddie Manton & The
Southsiders and Hard Day's Night Beatles Tribute Band. West London-Style Ale
will then be available on draught and in six- and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans
the second week of August.
Combining the classic Maris Otter ale malt with traditional and modern hop
varieties, head brewer Damian McConn produced a sophisticated yet
highly-drinkable British-Style Best Bitter. It is medium-bodied with toasty,
graham cracker malt flavors, complemented with hop flavors and aromas of
loganberry, redcurrant, grapefruit and lime.
"The 30th Anniversary Series showcases the unique qualities and attributes
that have helped drive Summit forward over the last three decades," said
McConn. "We kicked off the series early in the year with a powerful Double
IPA, followed up in late spring with a classical German Keller Pils, and now
we're staying across the pond as we enter August with a thirst-quenching
session ale packed with flavor. West London-Style Ale presents complexity,
character and drinkability in a low ABV beer with an assertive hop profile
that doesn't overwhelm beer lovers."
