Summit Releases Unchained Series 20: Sticke Alt
A Düsseldorf Style Ale from Brewer Mike Lundell
ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 30, 2015) Summit Brewing Company
<http://www.summitbrewing.com> today announces the release of Sticke Alt:
Düsselfdorf Style Ale. The 20th beer in the limited release Unchained Series
will be available on draught and in 12oz bottle 6-packs the second week of
October.
Sticke Alt, a maltier and hoppier version of a traditional Altbier, is
commonly offered in secret in Düsselfdorf, Germany each year and passed
around by word of mouth to the brewers loyal patrons. A mysterious
concoction of hops and malts, it is never brewed the same way twice. Brewer
Mike Lundells Sticke Alt has a light hoppy nose, a solid malt backbone, and
a slightly sweet, but crisp and mellow finish.
Although inspired by Summits much-loved Altbier of years ago, this Sticke
Alt is decidedly different. Utilizing German hops, Czech and German malts,
and an authentic Alt yeast strain, this ale is a stronger and darker brew
than a traditional Altbier. The beer ferments at a cooler temperature than
an English Ale and for an extended period of time, producing a malty beer
with a clean finish.
Ive become known for my hoppier Unchained beers, like India Rye Ale and
Another IPA, but this time I wanted to change things up and explore my
maltier side, said Brewer Mike Lundell.
Join Summit and Brewer Mike for events to kick off Sticke Alts release:

About the Unchained Series
The Unchained Series, which saw its first batch in 2009, allows each of
Summits individual brewers to showcase their creativity by allowing them to
break free from the norm and create their own beer. Were fortunate to have
nine phenomenal brewers at Summit, said Mark Stutrud, founder and president
of Summit Brewing Company. The Unchained Series is a way for our brewers to
showcase their artistry. There are no budgetary restraints, no outside
influences from a sales team, and the brewers are free to collect
ingredients from anywhere in the world. As long as its legal, they have
complete autonomy.

Hey all -
I've had one drop for the BJCP Tasting Exam this Sunday, Sept 20 at 9am in
St.Louis Park. Let me know if you're interested in taking/retaking.
- Al
I still have seats available for the next BJCP Exam Prep class that starts on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 6:30 pm. We will be using the new 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines: www.bjcp.org. The classes will be every Thursday at my house in North Minneapolis from 6:30 pm and going until 10:30 pm (or later) for 13 weeks. We will be covering the material that is in the BJCP exams, including: the various styles of beer, how to fill out judging sheets, brewing ingredients, brewing techniques, brewing history, etc. A large portion of this class involves sampling various beers, so a designated driver to pick you up after class is recommended. This class requires a lot of participation and each person in the class will be required to give a presentation on a selected topic. You will also be required to bring selected beers to certain classes. For most people this runs about $150+ during the class. The focus of this class is to prepare people for the Beer Judging Certification Program online & tasting exams (scheduled for December 27, 2015) and to teach them how to become beer judges. Although other topics are covered, this is really the purpose for the class. If you feel that you are going to miss more than 3 classes or you are not interested in taking the BJCP exam (or in judging beers), this is not the class for you. There are only 12 seats available for any BJCP exam. First priority is given to people who are taking this class, so it is very important that you are not taking a seat if you do not want to take the exam. You need to be a current member of the Minnesota Home Brewers Association to take this class. (You can sign up at mnbrewers.com.)If more people are interested in the class than seats available, priority will be given to those who signed up first and who have helped out at previous contests. Please include answers to the following questions when you mail your check:· Name, email, and phone number· How long have you been a member of the Minnesota Homebrewers Association?· How long have you been a homebrewer? Approximately how many batches?· Are you familiar with all-grain brewing?· Have you sent your beers to any homebrew contests? If so, which ones?· Have you participated in any homebrew contests? If so, which ones and how? If you are still interested and would like a spot in the class, you will need to send a non-refundable check made out Gera Exire LaTour for $140 to my address below. (This includes your $40 BJCP tasting exam fee and the fee for the class.) Please email me if you plan to attend and I need to receive your check by ASAP to reserve your spot. This is first come, first served. Please email me with any questions. Also, if you are not interested in the class at this time, let me know if you want to be on the list for next session.Gera Exire LaTour

As some of you know, my British Bitter won Best of Show (out of 693 entries) at the 2014 MN State Fair homebrew contest. As a result, Kristen England at Bent Brewstillery agreed to make a version of it (based on my recipe) for this year's Fair. I was at Bent in early August, helping a tiny bit with the beer, which is called Fest Hops, and Fest Hops is on sale at the Ball Park Cafe at the State Fair this year. The beer will also be on tap at Bent and perhaps a few MN bars. Ball Park Cafe will also have Chris Smith's German Hefe, which was produced with Chris at Lucid, as part of Chris's victory in the BFD contest. John Personal. Professional.
