Subject: Summit Brewing Announces Unchained Number 19 and Backyard Bash
Al,
News from Summit Brewing today: The next addition to the Unchained Series is
announced and tickets are now on sale for the Backyard Bash. Attached are
press releases on both The Backyard Bash and Make It So, the 19th beer in
the Unchained Series.
Summit Brewer Nick Hempfer decided to take beer to a place he had never
brewed before, so he created Make It So. Make It So, an Extra Special Bitter
ale brewed with Earl Grey Tea. Coffee beer has been done, Nick is bringing
together two of the UK's favorites: beer and tea.
Make It So is the 19th beer in Summit's Unchained Series. Unchained is a
series of beers where the brewer is given complete freedom to try something
new and different, to brew something that stands out and allows them to show
their brewing skill.
The attached press release has all the details on Make It So and the tasting
events happening around the Twin Cities. Would you be interested in speaking
with Summit Brewing about their newest addition to the Unchained Series?
We are available and look forward to talking with you about Unchained Make
It So and The Backyard Bash.
Thanks,
Brendan Kearin

I bottle condition in 2L growlers all the time, and haven't had any issues. But I have the flip-top variety (both with and without the metal handles). They work great. But I've heard there are issues with screw tops; they won't hold the pressure.

Glass is cheap. I'd roll those dice.
Also, check out this kickstarter for force carbing in a wide mouth growlers.

Hey, gang,
Using all 12- and 22-oz. bottles for a batch is sometimes tiring, but without a dedicated fridge/freezer, five gallons of homebrew in a keg gets a little cooked this time of year. I was looking at the myriad growlers lying about my house, and thought, "Those are a great size--each is five bottles worth, but is faster to clean and fill and cap than five 12-oz. bottles. The growlers fit easily in the regular fridge, and there are many instances where I'm going to drink/share five beers in a session anyway."
I asked at Northern Brewer, and the guy told me that many people throw some carb pills in a growler and fill it up. He steered me toward the plastic growler caps. I also looked at many online forums, and some people say that it should never be attempted, while plenty of folks say that they've bottled dozens of batches solely in growlers with no issues.
What say ye? I already did four growlers worth last night, but please let me know if I should put these in a tub under a tarp for the eventual explosion. :) I cannot reason why they would explode, but the naysayers claim it's going to happen.
Thanks,
John

Still looking for a few judges for Tuesday night (14th). 6pm at the Minneapolis store. I'd love to have you there, if you're available. Let me know if you can swing it! Do you have access to a listserve of judges in town? Right now I have 67 entries and 8 judges confirmed for Tuesday night. Several have said they are available another day, if needed, but I'd love to get as much done as possible. Awards are not announced until Sunday afternoon.
