FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Summit releases Unchained Series 17: Harvest Fresh IPA
Summit’s first fresh and wet hopped beer
ST. PAUL, Minn. – (October 22, 2014) – Summit Brewing Company announces the release of Harvest Fresh IPA, a fresh hopped ale with assertive pine, resin and grapefruit notes and a strong caramel malt backbone. The 17th beer in the limited release Unchained Series will be available on draught and in 6-pack bottles the week of October 27.
Harvest Fresh IPA is the first Unchained beer from brewer Tom Mondor. Tom started at Summit as a brewery tour guide and after schooling with the American Brewers Guild, was taken on as an apprentice brewer in 2012. In 2013 he became a full time brewer at Summit. His goal for his Unchained beer is to make an approachable and balanced beer that both malt and hop lovers can appreciate.
The brewery received freshly harvested and then pelletized Chinook, Cascade and Centennial Hops from Roy Farms in Moxee, WA. Summit also used whole cone green hops for the first time in the brewery’s history. These Chinook Hops, which came from the Michigan Hop Alliance, went straight into the lauter tun and were mixed in with the malt and wort. The goal of this mash hopping is a more subtle and rounded bitterness in the final product.
“The hops used in Harvest Fresh IPA provide the inspiration for the name. I wanted to use hops straight from the field to take full advantage of the flavor and aroma that fresh hops provide,” said Brewer Tom Mondor.
The grain bill for Harvest Fresh IPA includes a new pale malt variety called Full Pint which was malted at Briess in Chilton, WI. This 2 row malt provides the foundation for the Munich, CaraMunich and Light Caramel specialty malts. Together, they create a complex malt flavor and aroma – hints of fresh bread, biscuit, and caramel with a dry finish.

About the Unchained Series
The Unchained Series, which saw its first batch in 2009, allows each of Summit’s individual brewers to showcase their creativity by allowing them to break free from the norm and create their own beer. “We’re fortunate to have nine phenomenal brewers at Summit,” said Mark Stutrud, founder and president of Summit Brewing Company. “The Unchained Series is a way for our brewers to showcase their artistry. There are no budgetary restraints, no outside influences from a sales team, and the brewers are free to collect ingredients from anywhere in the world. As long as it’s legal, they have complete autonomy.”
Summit Brewing Company
Founded in St. Paul, Minn. in 1986, Summit Brewing Company has stayed close to its roots, serving the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region. Summit’s beers are currently available in 18 states including Minnesota, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Arkansas and Wisconsin. Summit now produces 14 varieties of premium craft beer, including seven year-round, five seasonal beers, and the limited release Unchained Series and Union Series. Since its inception, the brewery has been a consistent pioneer in the craft beer movement.

A friend of mine that works in a brewery in Minneapolis has a used barrel that he is giving away. Here is what he wrote:
I currently have one and soon two Rum barrels that have been used once for barrel-aged beer. The one already empty had a scottish brown in it, the one that I will be emptying soon has an English Old Ale in it. They are free to a good home. Must be picked up here at the brewery. Let me know if you or someone else might be interested (they also make awesome furniture and rain barrels).
Please email me privately and I will get you in touch with him. -Gera crankycat(a)gmail.com

Due to a scheduling conflict we have had to reschedule our October meeting
(previously October 11th). Many of you may have already read of this change
in the weekly newsletter. Below is additional information:
Come out to Lucid Brewing on Saturday, October 18th from noon to 3:00 pm.
We will be having a short discussion from our own Andy Ruhland, who is the
Brewer/Cellarmaster at Lucid. Andy has the privilege of scoring an almost
perfect score of 98 on his Gose (Lucid's Goslar) at the 2014 World Beer
Championship. He'll discuss his research behind this old German style,
wheat ale. We'll have some Goslar to sample and educate your palate, while
you listen to Andy discuss his process in creating this near perfect beer.
Homebrew beer, mead and cider is welcome and encouraged!

I made the decision to switch from propane to electric brewing earlier in
the summer. I sold my old brew stand and rebuilt one more specific to an
electric setup. I had my kettles welded (Thanks to the list for hooking me
up with Primitive Precision Metalcraft for the welding) to allow me to
connect the elements and I also purchased and started to assemble the
control panel but am admitting defeat in my ability to understand
electrical diagrams.
Would anyone happen to have any recommendations for an electrician or
fellow homebrewer who is knowledgeable and has done something like this? I
posted up on the facebook page but haven't had luck finding someone yet.
I purchased a DIY kit from ebrewingsupply.com so I should have all the
needed parts, heck it even comes with wiring diagrams which to the right
person probably make perfectly good sense. Take a peek here
http://theharaldsons.com/downloads/wiring_diagrams.pdf
I'm not even sure where to start asking so I thought I'd try here. If you
have any leads please send them my way. I'm not looking for a handout as
I'm ready to pay for services. I just want to make beer again :)
Here are some photos of my setup that I've put together.
Thanks for reading!

Scott,
I am not a electrician but I am an electrical engineer and I have built my own electrical brewery from scratch. From your pictures it looks like the panel is already wired so the hard stuff should be done.
I won't wire your house as I feel that should be done by a licensed electrician however I might be able to explain what needs to be done if that's any use to you.
