The party starts at5:30 pm and ends at 8:30 pm. Winners announced at about 6:30 pm, so come early to enjoy the wonderful food and beer. At this time, we will also announce which beer Mike Hoops selected to be brewed at Town Hall next year. There will be door prizes given away and you can pick up your score sheets after the winners are announced. (Any score sheets or prizes not picked up will be sent out next week.)I would like to thank all our volunteers who braved the heat this past weekend at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival to help judge and run the contest. We would not have such a successful event without all your help! Also thank you to our fantastic sponsors that have provided the prizes we will be handing out. It is a honor to have so many businesses support the home brewing community!Town Hall Brewery: 1430 Washington Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55454 Hope to see you there!~Gera Exire LaTourCo-Organizer, Byggvir's Big Beer Cup

Uber last minute, but any chance there is anyone near Minneapolis that is
heading to the Renaissance Festival tomorrow AM for judging that would like
to help me get out there? I live right off 35W in South Minneapolis. Please
and thanks! Cheers!

Subject: BJCP Written Proficiency Exam - 9/8/2013 - Minneapolis
I am hosting a BJCP Written Proficiency Exam for the North Region of the
BJCP on September 8, 2013 at 10am in Minneapolis, MN. To qualify to take
the BJCP Written Proficiency Exam, you must have a score of at least 80% on
the Tasting exam, and have accumulated at least 10 judging points.
The exam consists of two sections. The first section is 20 T/F questions,
where each wrong answer results in a 0.5 point deduction from your overall
exam score. The second section consists of five essay questions. Each of
these questions is worth 20 points.
As you probably know, the BJCP judge advancement system has changed. Now
the tasting portion of your score counts for 50% of your total score, where
it used to only count for 30% of your written score. Based on this, with
your current best Tasting score, you would need to score of 99 on the
Written exam to advance to Master. You need 40 points for Master, half of
which must be Judging Points.
You can find the study guide for the new exam at:
http://www.bjcp.org/docs/BJCP_Study_Guide.pdf
Some people have found the BJCP Exam for Dummies useful in studying for this
test also. The 2010 version is currently published on the BJCP website.
This was published prior to the new exam. It can be found at:
http://www.bjcp.org/docs/BJCP_Study_Guide.pdf
If you'd like the 2012 version, let me know and I'll email you a copy.
I only have 5 seats remaining for this exam, so it's first come, first
served. To reserve your seat for the exam, send a non-refundable check for
$15 payable to me. I will let you know immediately if you are one of the 5.
I will return any checks that come in after that.

I am a building owner looking for a person(s) who are ready to take the
leap into having a real brewery and tap room. I have an ideal location.
Do you think you can help? Do you have members who are this serious?

Esteemed judges, stewards and beer aficionados,
The Nordeast Brewers Alliance is again hosting the Nordeast Big River Homebrew Competition in conjunction with the Nordest Big River Brew Fest. Last year we had a great time running our first BJCP competition and couldn't have done it without your help along the way. We had over 150 entries last year, and expect even more this year.
The competition is beer only, with the addition of the specialty categories American Wild Ale and 100% Brett. We hope to again bring out the funk and unleash the wild ales.
Standard BJCP judging points will be awarded based on sessions judged or stewarded, and we will be providing food and refreshments during the judging.
Registration for competition judging/stewarding is open Aug 21-Sep 28.at nordeasthbc.brewcompetition.com . Please sign up if you can volunteer.
All Judging will be done at the East Side Neighborhood Services, 1700 2nd St NE, Minneapolis.
Judging sessions will be Oct 12 and 13, from 10-4:30, broken into AM and PM shifts.
BOS judging will be held Oct 13.
All winners will be announced at the Nordeast Big River Brew Fest on Saturday Oct 19.
I hope to have a great cast of judges and stewards just like last year. Your help makes or breaks the competition, so thanks in advance! Please pass this email along to anyone who might be interested in helping out.
Cheers,
Tyler Bye

We are on our way to a record setting number of entries for Byggvir's Big Beer Cup! I would love to have more judges and stewards sign up to help out. People with limited judging experience will be paired with judges who have taken the BJCP exam. (This is the perfect first contest to learn about home brew judging!)
We are judging on-site at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25th. You get in to the Fest for free on the day(s) you help out and I try to leave plenty of time for you to enjoy the events.
Please sign up on the website: www.rennfestbeercup.com
We are making the judging schedules and door list from the website.
If you have any questions, please send me an email. I hope to see you there!
Gera Exire LaTour
Co-Organizer
P.S. If I missed anyone who is interested in helping out, please pass this email to him/her. Thanks!
