It's that time of year again,
We will be doing a Club Cider buy from the same orchard as last year. I
would like to do the drop off at Learn to Homebrew day again (Nov 2 -
Barley John's), but unfortunately I won't know the pick-up date until late
October...If they can't make the November 2nd date it will be another
weekend in early November.
The price should be $4 a gallon again (if the price fluctuates it won't be
by much) and you will need to supply your own vessel(s), ideally 5 gallon
buckets.
Please let me know how much you would like, in 5 gallon quantities. I wish
I had more information but this is not a commercial venture and there are
always logistical issues. If you are not interested in "relaxing and having
a homebrew" and are on a tight schedule please do not participate as this
is a time consuming affair. I will update you all when I have confirmed the
date & location. Club members will get first preference (please have your
dues up to date). Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

The new website looks great--my thanks go out to all who worked on it! I use the site to look up coming events, so I appreciate when the next three or four months' worth of meeting/gathering information is on there. If you all didn't already at the Surly gathering, then on Saturday please make sure to toast the club's new First Lady--Jennifer Cote (nee Weinstock), who married our current president Michael on October 6th. I won't be at the meeting until after the Carter/Cote toasting time, so somebody please do so in my stead! Thanks,
John Personal. Professional.

Date: Mon, 21 Oct 2013 07:57:15 -0700 (PDT)
Dear Members, Today we announce the roll out of the NEW MHBA WEBSITE! Many of you have expressed a desire to see a more modern looking and easier to navigate Minnesota Home Brewers Website. This site is more streamlined using the tabs that are commonly seen on many websites today, so the format should feel familiar to most of us.You'll be seeing a more complete calendar of events, better access to legacy articles and an easy way to sign up to receive club announcements! There are a few areas on the new site that we are still working on filling in. Look for the the return of the Style Of The Month archives and old copies of the club newsletter to return very shortly! There have been a number of individuals involved with the implementation of our new site and I would like to thank the following people for their hard work, creativity and input. Dave Royer and Andrew Schmitt for their design and creative prowess!Brett Glenna, Al Boyce for their guidance and leadership. Please visit the website and let us know how we did! See you at Barley John's November 2nd!!! DETAILS:
It is our pleasure once again host folk powerhouse Cliff Eberhardt! Cliff
has been a driving force of the Greenwich Village New Folk movement and is
well known among his peers. Cliff's songs have been covered by the likes of
Ritchie Havens, Buffy St. Marie, Erasure, Lucy Kaplansky and the folk
superstar band "Cry, Cry, Cry" (Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, Lucy
Kaplansky). He has released his 9 albums, his latest, "All Wood and Doors",
is a CD of all acoustic covers of songs by The Doors, backed by a plethora
of folk and rock legends.
"Eberhardt is one of the most original songsmiths currently on tour, a
highly intelligent and articulate artist whose penetrating and profound
lyrics are sometimes overshadowed by his extraordinary guitar playing. Upon
close listening, the Philadelphia-born singer's gift for the English
language is abundantly clear. The words that tumble from his mouth are
framed by a raspy yet deeply elegant voice" - Folk Music Society of
Huntington New York
RESERVE NOW! This show will sell out quickly! Please join us for a great
night of song and story with Cliff on Saturday, November 9, 2013 starting at
8pm.

Please note: This is a private party, in our private home. This party is NOT
a business nor is it a business related activity. It is simply a gathering
of our friends and guests to enjoy live music, fellowship, food (a potluck)
and fun. It is officially free (or else it might be considered a business),
although voluntary contributions (suggested donation of $15 per person) are
accepted on behalf of the artists. 100% of all contributions go directly to
the performers. By invitation only.
I'm gonna toss this up on the Chop & Brew FB page to make up for the fact that I cannot be here to document as Gera once suggested. I'll be in Nashville shooting footage at the Music City Brew Off.Teach them new homebrewers real good, y'all!

MESSAGE FROM MARK
Looking back at the Fall newsletter from two years ago, I was struck by this comment I made about our first Backyard Bash: I have recovered very nicely, thank you. I guess my only issue is, as we plan our brewery expansion, we will lose some party space. So, let's tear up the grass for the next few years.
Turns out, our expansion only made the party better! It was with great pride we opened up the doors to our brand new cellar and shared that beautiful, cool (literally), space with all the party goers. And the aforementioned grass? We got rid of the big tent and made it an open air affair, so there was plenty of grass tearing to go around. We had a great time partying in the sun with all of you. Ive said it before and I will say it again, the success of our brewery is due to you, our loyal customers. Thank you for celebrating 27 years with us.

VIDEO VAULT
We recently unearthed a couple of news story videos from the Summit archives and posted them to our YouTube page. Check out the clips featuring the original brewery on University Avenue and a baby-faced Mark Stutrud from WCCO and KARE 11.
GREEN PARTY
Were proud to report that with 2,400 attendees at our Backyard Bash, we only generated 78.6 pounds of trashthats less than a half an ounce of trash per person, or approximately the same weight as seven beer bottle caps!
SUMMIT WINS SILVER AT 2013 GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL®
This past weekend we won a silver medal in the Extra Special Bitter category for our original British-Style IPA, which is being rebranded this fall as True Brit IPA.

I forgot to add that homebrew IS allowed at the meeting this Saturday.
Bring any beer, mead and/or cider you would like to share or get feedback.
Thanks, Jeff!
Brett
Just a reminder that the October meeting will be this Saturday at Surly
Brewing Company. Time will be from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. We will start by having
a discussion with Derek Allmendinger on his path from homebrewer to
professional. All club members who are current with their dues will have
their first pint paid for by the MHBA!
Also, keep Saturday, November 2nd in your calendar for our annual Learn To
Homebrew Day. As in past years, it will be at Barley John's from 10:00 am
to 3:00 pm. There will be numerous drawings for prizes and is a great
opportunity to bring friends and family who may be interested in getting
into the hobby. We'll be having at least a couple of brewing demonstrations
going on throughout the morning and afternoon. Barley John's has also
agreed to once again provide breakfast for a very reasonable charge.
