As North Regional Rep for the BJCP, I am hosting an open BJCP Exam on Sept 9 for anyone who who would like to take or retake the TASTING portion of the exam.
I have 7 seats remaining, so reply ASAP if you're interested! (Please forward this email along to any interested people in your club!)
The exam will be held at 9am on Sunday, Sept 9, at the Byerly's Community Room in St.Louis Park, MN. The new tasting exam consists of scoring SIX beers over a 90 minute time-span.
If you wish to take the exam for the first time, you need to pass the online exam first ( http://bjcp.coursewebs.com/ ) and bring your certificate of completion with you to the exam. The exam fee is $40 for first-time takers.
If you are already a BJCP member and would like to improve your score on the tasting portion, the exam fee is $15.
Note: to qualify to retake the Written Proficiency Exam (aka "Essay Exam") to improve your written score, BJCP Members now must either be a National judge, or have at least 10 judging points and a score of 80% or better on the tasting exam.
Thanks!
- Al Boyce, North Rep, BJCP

Subject: Judging and Entry is NOW OPEN for the Nordeast Big River Homebrew Competition!
Just wanted to let everyone know that Registration for Judging and Entries are both open for our competition.
Here is the website!
http://nordeasthbc.brewcompetition.com/
This is a going to be a great BJCP event! There will be food, and drink for stewards and judges and anyone that comes out and volunteers their time to help make this event a success! We are going to do everything we can to make the judging events a good time for all. I'm hoping to have a meat raffle where we'll give away some great meats from Ready Meats in NE, and hopefully some Sausages from Sentryz in NE! Our club the Nordeast Brewers Alliance will have a multitude of additional beers for sampling, and feel free to bring your own to share as well!
For homebrew entries, remember that there are TWO special categories. American Wild Ale, and 100% Brett. We are planning on having the Judging for those two categories on Friday. Please let me know if you'd like to Judge either of those categories, and certainly enter your beers into those categories as you'll have some great judges! Enter your cellared sour beers, your funky concoctions that defy style guidelines. You may even have time to brew up a 100% brett as they certainly can finish in two month time if you force carb it! East Coast Yeast prizes for the best of both of those categories!
Please distribute this to your respective Homebrew Clubs and brewing friends and spread the word. Any help would be highly appreciated!
Best Regards,
Nick Pederson

Hi,
Anyone have a listing of the local Twin Cities pubs/bars that give
discounts to AHA members? The locator on AHA's website does not appear to
be functional. I recall something had been transmitted a while back.

I have a limited number of free download codes for a new brewing app called
BrewBot.
You can check out the app here:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/brewbot/id542237024?ls=1&mt=8
The app has 16 different calculators in addition to hop and yeast data.
To make this fair, I'll send download codes to the 5 people from MHBA who
give me the best reason by noon that I should send them a code.
I wrote this app because I wasn't really happy with what was out there. I'm
sure there's room for improvement. If you decide to purchase it I'd
appreciate any feedback or ideas for additional features.
