Subject: Summit switches to pry-off caps
totis(a)always-thinking.com.
Thanks,
Tim
ST. PAUL, MN – (February 21, 2011) – This week, Summit Brewing Company will begin the first run of bottles with a classic pry-off cap style, discontinuing the use of twist-off caps.
“It’s time to give our customers what they really want—an easier way to get inside our bottles,” said Mark Strutrud, CEO and Founder of Summit Brewing Company. “We’ve received an increasing number of comments over the last year or so about how difficult it is to twist off our bottle caps, and we’re not joking when we say we’ve felt our customers’ pain.”
With the change come improvements to the Summit beer drinking experience. Pry-off caps offer a much tighter seal to prevent oxygen from entering the bottle, which can compromise the fresh quality, flavor and body of the beer. The bottle mouth is also much smoother and thicker compared to the twist-off finish.
The transition from twist-off to pry-off caps will affect all brands of Summit. Costumers will begin to see the change on their bottles a few weeks after the start of the cap conversion.

Hello and Happy Valentines Day,
We are proud to announce the IBU Open competition will be held on March 12,
2011. It is the 3rd competition in the High Plains Brewer Award. The High
Plains Brewer is an award given to an individual brewer from Oklahoma,
Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota or Minnesota
who demonstrates outstanding and consistent brewing skills. The award
recipient is chosen based on performance in seven regional competitions.
Qualifying events are hosted by Kansas City Bier Meisters; Iowa Brewers
Union; Prairie Homebrewing Companions; OmaHops; Minnesota Home Brewers
Association & St Paul Homebrew Club; THIRSTY; and Fellowship of Oklahoma Ale
Makers. To be eligible, a brewer must reside in or belong to a club located
in one of the aforementioned states. Also, in addition to the Best of Show
Beer winner and Best in Show Mead, we hold a special category, the IBU
Challenge in which the beer entered must posses 1 IBU for each S.G. point.
Helping the current coordinator of the IBU Open, and as the newest Special
Events Coordinator for the IBU, I want to increase our entry count by 100%
over the next few years. As a draw to our competition, we like to offer the
best prizes to our competitors, which is why I am contacting you today. I am
looking for donations to award to the first place winner of each category,
and if you are willing to provide a prize, your business will receive
recognition through our website
*http://iowabrewersunion.ning.com/<http://iowabrewersunion.org/>
*and in print and posters during the competition. If you have a particular
style you wish to sponsor, we will be happy to accommodate you. Thank you
in advance for your kind donation to our competition.
Have a great day!

If anyone is interested in being the club's Vice President, please let
Chris, myself or Paul know. Elections will be held at the meeting on
February 19th at Prairie Ale House in Eden Prairie.
I've been VP for the last two years and would like to see someone else take
over the role. I will remain as Web Master and continue to do a lot of
other stuff for the club.
Thanks!
