Unforunately, the Faire has pushed back Byggvir's by a week, and I have a
scheduling conflict with the office. I had volunteered to do one of the
demo sessions, and have to back out.
So, MHBA is looking for volunteers, 2 for Saturday and 2 for Sunday, to
brew something. What is up to you, it should be sorta busy (lots of
additions, etc.,) probably extract simply due to time, and I'd suspect
that a partial boil with an ice chill afterwards. Me, I'd brew up
something that might be drinkable, I certainly wouldn't bank on it. It
does not have to be period authentic, modern brews will be acceptable for
the demos.
One requirement of the Faire is that the demonstrators have to be in garb.
I'm also told that the Faire should be able to supply monk's robes in a
pinch (wear *LIGHT* clothing underneath!)

Y'all-
Had a GREAT time at the Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison, WI this past weekend! Thanks again to Jeff Luskey for arranging the tickets for it! I know he is already planning the BUS TRIP TO MADISON for Next year's Great Taste!
Met some guys from the Milwaukee Beer Barons there - they are inviting any interested in judging at the Schooner homebrew competition to come on down. They are judging on Sept 18 - right before the Great Lakes Brew Fest... read on below...

I went to it a few years ago, and I believe Rick Oftel and Paul Dienhart made the road trip there last year. For you cider makers, be sure to stop by Aeppeltroew Cidery on the way to or from!

Hey Al,
It was great running in to you at the GTM. I did not realize that you Minnesota guys ventured in to our state on a quest for beer. Now we need to get you to travel another 70 miles to Milwaukee.
I would like to invite you and your Minn brethren to come and judge at next months Schooner open held in Racine. The comp is held in conjunction with the Great Lakes Brew Fest. My club "Da Barons" joins forces with the Racine and Kenosha clubs to judge over 700 entries. We have sessions in various locations throughout the week with the main session's on Saturday in Racine.
What makes this comp so much fun is that after the morning and afternoon sessions we attend the Great Lakes Brew Fest. Judges get free admittance. The GLBF is my personal favorite, for it is smaller and more intimate than the GTM. They only sell about 1500 tickets. The venue is superb, right on the Lake Michigan shore in downtown Racine.
Because of Racine's proximity to the IL border we pull judges from the Chicago area. So this would be a great way for you to meet some of our Chicago BJCP brothers. Brian Joas is this years comp directer and you can contact him for more details.

On another note, Milwaukee has some great beer bars. If you are so inclined to visit our city for some "beer tourism" please contact me. My fellow Barons and I would be happy to show you and your buddies around our fair city. The Lakefront Brewery is not to be missed. A private tour can easily be arranged.

Hey everyone. Next month, we are meeting at Black Forest Inn on Wednesday, September 15th from 6:00-9:00 pm. This gives club members who aren't able to attend on Saturdays a chance to come to a meeting.
Black Forest InnOne East 26th StreetMinneapolis, MN
The Black Forest has been very supportive of the local home brewers, so we are welcome to bring in home brew as long as we are discrete. (They serve excellent food and have some great stuff on tap!) You can park in their lot on Nicollet Avenue.
I will give a brief presentation on brewing with usual ingredients.

In the meantime, please consider entering your beers, meads, and ciders for Byggvir's Big Beer Cup at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. This will be our fourth year hosting this low-key, fun contest. We are taking entries through September 4th with judging happening on site during the Fest on September 11th & 12th. Please consider also signing up to judge or steward. We welcome all levels of experience. In fact, this is a great contest to bring your friends or family that would like to know more about judging. www.rennfestbeercup.com. (Also, sorry that I had the old address for Midwest on an earlier flyer. I apologize for amy inconvenience.)
Please email me if you have questions about either event at gera_latour(a)hotmail.com.
Thanks!

Last call if you are interested - volunteer registration will close tonight.

Hi All:
It was another banner year for entry into the MN State Fair Homebrew Competition. Entry has closed and there are just shy of 500 entries!
Unfortunately, at this point we have no where near enough folks signed up judge/steward 500 entries. Our webmaster, Rick, has so kindly re-opened the registration page for volunteer registration. Please take a look at your schedule for the weekend of 8/20-21 and sign-up to judge or steward if you have any availability! As we did last year, we will provide a State Fair admission ticket to all volunteers so you can go back and see the Best of Show judging live in-action or just enjoy the Fair at your leisure.
Thanks for your support of the competition!

Hey, slackers.....uh....I mean, judges, Sarah needs your help here to
get this thing done.
At the last Upper Mississippi Mash-Out we DID NOT seat all people who
signed up to judge because of the overwhelming response. Part of that is
out of town judges, yeah, but if you want to be considered as a good,
active, dependable judge, maybe you might want to consider helping out
here. Just saying.
These things all come into consideration come January when we will have
more judges than we need for the 10th anniversay Mash-Out blow out. Is
this a veiled threat? No, it's a fact. ;-)
Yes, it it summer, I get that, but it's not a major time commitment.
Also, if you're a not a BJCP judge but interested in learning you can be
paired with an experienced judge.
