Subject: AHA Conference Hotel Filling Up
Hi All,
Just wanted to send an update on the up-coming 2010 AHA National Homebrewers
Conference in Minneapolis, MN June 17-19:
The Sheraton has sold out of all of their Traditional Rooms. They are
offering Deluxe Rooms at a rate of $129 for people registering for the AHA
Conference.
We will likely be opening an overflow hotel next door to the Sheraton that
will be honoring the $109 room rate, so if you'd prefer to get the $109
rate, you can hold off on booking a room until we get the overflow hotel set
up.
This is going to be a great conference! I knew it was going to be big, but I
did not expect the hotel to fill up as fast as it has. If you haven't
already registered for the conference, be sure to do so as it will assuredly
sell out this year.
See www.AHAConference.org for conference details.
Cheers!

Greetings...
Thanks to all who signed up to help sort or move entries! We still
need some more people, so if you have some time available on Saturday,
January 23rd, to help sort entries at the Northern Brewer warehouse
for the mashout, please let me know! Even if you can only make it for
an hour... it'll be a huge help!
The address for the NB warehouse is: 1945 County Road C2, Roseville, MN
Google map view of the NB warehouse: http://tinyurl.com/yl9l2fl
Also, as I mentioned in the first email I sent about sorting, we need
empty 24-pack cases for hauling / storing entries. If you cannot make
it to sort or haul entries, but you can obtain (or you already have) a
bunch of unused 24-pack cases, we'll take them! We'll need at least
75-80... so if you have already picked up some empty cases, please let
me know how many you have so I can get an idea of how many more we
need.
If you have questions, feel free to email me.
Thanks again.. cheers!

Greetings Beer Geeks,
I hope you are all gearing up for Mashout 2010. This is to let you know
that we will be having a prejudging event on Weds, January 27 in order to
get us set up for smoother sailing at the event itself. We will be at the
Happy Gnome in the upstairs room, and we will plan on having two sessions,
at 7 and at 9pm.
We will need judges and at least a few people willing to help out with
stewarding. If you are a BJCP judge looking for a few extra points for
advancement, or if you're already Grand Master and just want to help out,
please join us. Let me know if you plan to be there; we'll organize our
judging plans around the numbers we expect to have available.
As always, thanks for your time and effort.

Subject: [mnbrewers] 2010 Great Northern Brew-Ha-Ha! Call for Judges
The Northern Ale Stars Homebrewing Guild of Duluth MN and Superior WI are currently organizing the 4th annual Great Northern Brew-Ha-Ha Competition. Entry registration will begin January 18th, so as you bottle up your entries for the Upper Mississippi Mash-out, why not bottle up a couple more to enter into the Brew-Ha-Ha? As in past years, if you bring your Brew-Ha-Ha entries to the Upper Mississippi Mash-out, we will transport them back to Duluth for FREE!
As is always the case, we will need help from local and regional judges. This is a great opportunity for those in the Beer Judge Certification Program to pick up some judging points and for those who will soon be taking the BJCP exam to gain judging experience (AND gain future judging points).
So here it comes, the official...
CALL FOR JUDGES AND STEWARDS!
Judging sessions will be held on Friday, February 12th at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. and Saturday, February 13th at 10:00 AM at the Belgian Club in Superior WI (3931 E. 2nd Street).
A complementary dinner will be served on Friday for all volunteers and complementary cold breakfast items will be provided on Saturday morning prior to the judging along with a complimentary lunch after the judging. All volunteers will be eligible for door prizes to be given away on both days.
The awards dinner will be held Saturday evening, with Doug Hoverson, author of "Land of Amber Waters, The History of Brewing in Minnesota" will be our featured speaker.
Those interested in judging or stewarding can sign up online at: http://www.northern alestars. org/greatnorther nbrewhaha. html
Please direct any questions regarding judging to brewmaster@northern alestars. org

When sending emails to the club distribution lists, please check to see that
we can tell who you are.
Many times all we see is a cryptic email address, yeah, like my
MGBrew(a)comcast.net, or just a first name. It would be nice to know who you
are when you provide info to the club.
Thanks!

Subject: [sphbc] Mashout entry sorting
Greetings...
As you may know, the Mashout is a couple weeks away. And you may
also
know we are a fairly large competition (2nd or 3rd largest in the
country, not counting NHC). Over 800 entries last year meant we had
to wrangle over 1600 bottles of beer... which is a ton of work. So
like I do every year, I ask for help. Saturday January 23rd at 10am,
we will meet at the Northern Brewer Warehouse to begin sorting. You
can see what goes on behind the scenes at a large competition, drink
some free beer, and maybe get a good chuckle while reading entry
labels (2 words: pickle pilsner... and yes, there was a pickle in
the
bottle).
Entries are being hand-delivered to Midwest Supplies and to the
Northern Brewer retail store... so I will need a handful of people who
will be willing to pick up entries at both locations and drop them off
at the Northern Brewer Warehouse. I hope to do this Friday night
(the
22nd) or early Saturday morning (the 23rd).
Once all the entries are at the warehouse, I will need people to help
sort. Sorting involves unpacking entries, putting the new entry
numbers on the bottles and labels, and then sorting the entry into
it's appropriate case. Very simple, but for 800+ entries, it is a
lot of work!
Speaking of cases... we need at least 75 cases to hold up to 1800
bottles of beer so if you know of a place to get sturdy 24-pack cases,
please pick them up! They do not need to be whole, if they're broken
down and flattened, we can tape them up. If possible, try and stay
away from Sierra Nevada / Summit style cases since they both use
shorter 12oz bottles. I've found that the Budweiser / MGD cases work
great. On that same note, if the cases come with inserts, or 6pack
holders, please include those too, it makes things a lot easier for
sorting / packing. If you are coming to help sort, you can bring
them with. If you cannot make it to sort, but you have access to
cases, you can drop them off at the Northern Brewer retail store in
the basement with the rest of the entries.
Beer will be provided for sorting... not just any beer, the champagne of beers.
We have been able to sort in 6-7 hours with a small team of people...
so the more people we have, the faster we can be done!
After sorting... I will need help hauling entries from the NB
warehouse to Grumpys on Friday the 29th for judging. If possible, we
may be able to move entries the night before, which would be awesome.
It also helps that Grumpys is a short 5 minute drive from the
warehouse!
If you have any questions about helping out, or if you want to help
out, please email me directly. Even if you can only make it for an
hour, please don't hesitate to help out.
The address for the NB warehouse is: 1945 County Road C2,
Roseville, MN
Google map view of the NB warehouse: http://tinyurl.com/yl9l2fl
Thanks in advance... cheers!

This isn't a new store, but it's one most of us are not aware of.
Barkingside Co.
6442 Lyndale Ave S.
Richfield
612-869-4445
www.barkingside.com
Monday to Friday 10-4pm
It's very small, the size of my living room, and not much on display. The
variety doesn't match the other local stores, and their ingredients are
mostly prepackaged, like 1 pound packages of grain. Also, no liquid yeast,
only dry yeast.
They won't give us a discount and say their prices are low and compare to
the other stores.
So, just keep them in mind and stop in if you're in the Richfield area.
It's nice to support all of the stores in our hobby.
Cheers!
