Homebrewers,
A few years ago, we adopted a stretch of Shady Oak Road between Minnetonka
Mills Road and Excelsior Boulevard. Last year some weather challenges
prompted us to do a quick schedule change and the participants included
yours truly and Mike Behrendt. I think I gained about 5 pounds with all of
those left over donuts and consumed enough coffee to remain awake for a few
days. Humor aside, I would like to clean up this stretch of road again this
fall since it is somewhat littered with those little things that folks seem
so willing to toss out their windows.
Here is the proposal. We meet again at the shopping center just north of
Mainstreet (Shady Oak and Oak Drive Lane) at 9:00 am October 17, 2009. I'll
have the morning coffee and donuts. Six volunteers would really be
appreciated. From there, we move north and south collecting and depositing
our bags of crap as we go. Remember, you can keep anything you find
valuable! Last year I found a great CD of absolutely horrible music. Yep,
target practice.
After the pickup, head over to the monthly "hotdish and homebrew" meeting
being held at Traditional Foods Minnesota from 12-3.
RSVP sincerely appreciated. Please mark your calendars.
Cheers!

October Meeting: Hotdish & Homebrew
Saturday, October 17th, Noon - 3 p.m.
Traditional Foods Minnesota Warehouse
302 W. 61st Street, Minneapolis (Richfield)
Autumn will soon be upon us and that means winter isn't far behind. What
better time than now to break out the recipes books and get reacquainted
with your favorite hotdish? And what could complement great hotdish like a
cold homebrewed beer? That's right. nothing! October's MHBA meeting is
called 'Hotdish & Homebrew,' and this time we're meeting at a new location -
in Minneapolis.
Think of this meeting as being similar to the annual chili cook-offs, but
instead of different chilis, we're pairing our beers with as many hotdishes
as possible. There will be categories with prizes given for each category as
well as a Peoples Choice award.
Categories and prizes will be announced in the October BOILER, via e-mail,
forum and Facebook as we get closer to the date. If you want to suggest a
category or other fun activity for the day, contact Chip Walton at email:
chipaway(a)hotmail.com or cell phone: 512-914-1834.
This meeting will be held at the warehouse of Traditional Foods Minnesota.
They are a private buying club for locally-grown, farm-fresh food and
operate a warehouse in south Minneapolis that literally brings the farm to
the city. Traditional Foods Minnesota does this by co-opting or leasing
space in their warehouse to sell products direct from the farmer to the
consumer. You can find fresh dairy, produce, pasture-based pork, grass fed
beef, bison, goat and lamb along with locally harvested wild rice and honey.
More information can be found at www.traditionalfoodsmn.com
<http://www.traditionalfoodsmn.com/> . Check out the web site for details
on membership and product availability. If you have any specific questions
contact Mark Eggan at tradchef(a)yahoo.com.
Traditional Foods Minnesota will supply the tables and access to
electricity. The beer, food, and serving utensils are up to us. Their
warehouse is located at 302 W. 61st Street, a block north of Highway
62/Crosstown between Nicollet and Lyndale Aves. Come through gate to the
back of the building. Phone: 612-861-0097

Beer fans, geeks, and bulk beer producers, I'm sure that someone in
cyberville is using the old style beer faucets but has been lured into
considering stainless steel shanks and valve forward faucets. Is the
cost of new hardware holding you back?
I'm looking to purchase six old style faucets and short nipple shanks.
Preferably they work or could be repaired. I'll pay good money (within
reason) for your old stuff to help you purchase and install that shiny
set of new devices. Long term storage and dispensing benefits from
valve forward faucets. Short term dispensing (e.g., jockey box) only
requires clean lines and valves.
Let me know what you've got and how much you want.
Sincerely,
Rick Oftel

on the BBQ.
Please forward this message to the other message services the club uses
and add the date to the club calendar.
RSVP sincerely appreciated. Please mark your calendars.

There you go Paul. ;) I told him I'd get him the pics this way so the rest of you can ignore or feel free to check them out if you like.
Hats off to the MN Craft Brewer's Guild for another very fine event. I've never seen so many beers and had so little time! Food was good, music too, and there were more port-a-johns than one could ever need (which is a good thing). I didn't go on a tour or attend one of the other event options but it was nice to see the Review expanding in that way as well.
cheers,
Don
