------------------------------
------------------
*Just in time for winter and the colder fermentation temperatures that we
must all deal with, Northern Brewer presents: The European Lager Series...
* Stellar Tois - This dry finishing lager has a golden-straw hue and evinces
a white-laced head. Light-bodied with a hint of hop bitterness and
flavor. Stellar!
* Tmave Vycepni 10 - Inspired by the maltier cousins of Plzn's better-known
light lagers. This dark lager combines intense malt and more liberal
hopping rates common in Bohemian Pilsners to create a session beer that you
can't put down. Go ahead and brew a double batch, you'll be glad you did.
* Celebrationizator Doppelbock - Brew this high-gravity dark lager now so
that you can enjoy it as the Winter really sets in. When properly aged,
slight notes of alcohol-warmth only begin to betray the strength hidden
behind notes of dried fruit, burnt caramel, toast, and bread dough.
* Farley's Svetle Pivo in 3D (All-Grain Only) - This export-strength Czech
Lager couldn't have fewer ingredients, or a more complicated mash schedule.
One malt, one hop, Czech Lager yeast, and three decoctions. Try your hand
at this one if you're ambitious, or if you're experienced enough to know
that there's no substitute for true decoction mashing.

*WYEAST PRIVATE COLLECTION STRAINS *
------------------------------------------------
** #2247 European Lager - This higher-attenuating lager yeast from Eastern
Europe ferments dry for a crisp finish.
* #2487 Hella-Bock - Tolerant to higher levels of alcohol than most lager
strains, this yeast accents malt character without sacrificing attenuation.
* #2782 Staro-Prague - Hailing from the Czech Republic, this yeast is a
no-brainer for producing classic full-bodied Czech-style lagers. *
*NEW WHITE LABS PLATINUM STRAINS *
------------------------------------------------
** #515 Antwerp Ale - This Belgian ale yeast produces clean-finishing ales
reminiscent of some lager yeasts. Great for Belgian blondes and pale ales.
* #037 Yorkshire Square - This highly-flocculant English ale yeast leaves
slightly higher finishing gravities and accents malt character for
big-bodied beers.
* #885 Zurich Lager - This Swiss lager yeast is among the most alcohol
tolerant lager strains in the world! Diacetyl and sulfur production are
minimal.
*
*THE WINE KIT SHUFFLE*
------------------------------------------------
*New Wine kits from Winexpert!
* World Vinyard South African Chenin Blanc - Even though Chenin ripens late,
it retains crisp acidity, underpinning bright flavors of green apple,
tropical fruit and melons, with a distinctly floral nose and a juicy
quenching finish.
* World Vinyard Italian Barolo - Medium body with a luminous dark cherry
color. Not for the faint of heart, or impatient vintner, Barolo is for
those seeking intensity and complexity.
* Selection International Chilean Sauvignon Blanc - A nose of honeydew,
peach and gooseberry is followed by a silky palate with white peach and
mineral flavors and a long finish.
* Selection International Australian Grenache/Shiraz/ Mourvedre - The
blending of these three grapes is a classic and makes for a blend of length,
power, and fruitiness. Impressive finesse and complexity after a year in
the bottle.*
*Due to our limited space, we will no longer be stocking certain wine kits
at our Grand Ave location. These kits will still be stocked at our
warehouse, but we will require a week's lead time to get them. They are:
* Vintner's Reserve Chamblaise
* World Vinyard Australian River Reserve
* Selection International German Muller-Thurgau
* Selection Original Symphony
* Selection Original Valpolicella
* Selection Original Barolo
* Selection Original Chardonnay/Semillon
* Selection Estate Washington Cab-Franc/Merlot
* Selection Estate Lodi Ranch 11 Cabernet Sauvignon
*
*NEW LIMITED EDITION WINE KITS FROM WINEXPERT *
------------------------------------------------
*Each and every year, this series of wine kits represents the best that
Winexpert has to offer. These wines speak for themselves, if you have made
one in the past, then you can speak to their excellence. This year marks
the 20th anniversary of Winexperts' Limited Edition Series, and to
commemorate, they are bringing back five of their most popular wines! **This
year's line*<http://www.northernbrewer.com/winemaking/wine-ingredient-kits/wine-kits-win…>
* includes the following:
* South African Shiraz
* California Trio Blanca
* Australian Petit Verdot
* Pacific Quartet

*NEW WINE YEASTS FROM VINTNER'S HARVEST*
------------------------------------------------
*New this year, and just in time for wine season! Vintner's Harvest has
released a full line of wine yeasts appropriate for any number of styles of
grape and fruit wines. If you have not yet tried any of them, give one or
more a go with any of this fall's batches.
* **AW4*<http://www.northernbrewer.com/winemaking/wine-ingredients/wine-yeast/vintne…>
* - Germanic White wine yeast.
* **BV7*<http://www.northernbrewer.com/winemaking/wine-ingredients/wine-yeast/vintne…>

Hello, All--
As mentioned in Chris's message, the MN Homebrewers Association will once again be giving free, hands-on brewing demonstrations in conjunction with the American Homebrewers Association's National Teach-a-Friend-to-Homebrew Day. For (at least) the fifth consecutive year we will offer interested parties the opportunity to watch seasoned brewers brewing no fewer than three extract batches on the patio of Barley John's Brewpub. This will be the MHBA's November meeting, and we hope to once again have three complete brewing set-ups available as door prizes for brewing neophytes.
The pertinent information is below--please feel free to forward the info or print it on posters for tacking up on message boards or for distribution to interested parties by hand. It should copy and paste perfectly into a Word document, but I can send it as an attachment to individuals who wish to have it that way.
I will need one person who is willing to brew an extract batch that day. The ingredients will be provided; you bring a clean carboy and take home the wort to ferment it for the Christmas party.
Thanks,
John

2009 MHBA Cider Buy
Mark Glewwe and I are again organizing the annual cider buy from Minnesota Harvest. The plan is to pick up the cider and distribute it at the Teach-a-Friend-to-Homebrew event at Barley John's on Saturday November 7st. The price this year is $4.00 per gallon. The regular price in the shop at the orchard is $5.00. If you are interested in participating in the cider buy email me your order at csmitty42(a)yahoo.com . Orders must be received by Thursday October 29thso we can give them a heads up on the quantity.
I have attached a short write up I did last year about cider making from fresh juice. If you have any other questions let me know.
The fresh cider is unpasteurized and unpreserved and comes in plastic one gallon jugs and is frozen when we pick it up from the orchard.
