2009 MHBA Cider Buy
Mark Glewwe and I are again organizing the annual cider buy from Minnesota Harvest. The plan is to pick up the cider and distribute it at the Teach-a-Friend-to-Homebrew event at Barley John's on Saturday November 7st. The price this year is $4.00 per gallon. The regular price in the shop at the orchard is $5.00. If you are interested in participating in the cider buy email me your order at csmitty42(a)yahoo.com . Orders must be received by Thursday October 29thso we can give them a heads up on the quantity.
The fresh cider is unpasteurized and unpreserved and comes in plastic one gallon jugs and is frozen when we pick it up from the orchard.
The cider will be available for pick up from 10-2.

Imagine our surprise when we went to log entries for the Spooky Brew Review
yesterday and discovered we had close to 300 entries! Yes, in its 18th year
the good ol'SBR has broken all entry records. But this also means that our
current contingent of pledged judges is nowhere near the size needed to be
able to address all the added entries.
If you're a BJCP judge (or have any beer judging experience) and you can
possibly help out this coming Saturday, we'd really appreciate it. And of
course, we'll make sure to provide a fine lunch and some choice beers at
Emmett's, too. Just drop a line to me or Joe Preiser (joe(a)chibeer.org) to
confirm. We know some of you may have family commitments for Halloween, but
even if you can only participate for a portion of the day it would be
extremely helpful. And if you can't make it, please get the word out to your
colleagues. Your fellow homebrewers and judges will really appreciate it.

Did somebody on the list forward a piece of spam that came
through the mba list to spamcop?
If so please don't do that! Spamcop does a good job
of tracking spam and provides good service to help detect
spammers. (thebarn.com uses spamcops rtbl list) But the problem for the
mba list is that spamcop doesn't appear to know how to untangle the
originating IP from the IP of thebarn.com mail machine. So what happens
is both myself and my ISP (visi) get notified of spam originating from
thebarn.com. I then have to go in and convince them to look more closely
at the email headers and realize that the spam did not originate
from thebarn.com.
Spam is never fun to deal with and constant battle to try and filter,
I spend several hours a month tweaking the SpamAssassin rules to try
and catch the stuff that slips under the radar.
Thank you for your understanding on this matter.

I've heard from Gary Glass that AHA expects to have information on their web
site by the 28th of October.
It should be at:
http://www.beertown.org/homebrewing/index.html
and then click on 'National Conference' in the Events section of the left
navigation bar.
Cheers!
