Sorry about the short notice, but I just found out about
a blues and beer fest happening in New Richmond, WI on Saturday
June 7th from 1-4 pm. New Richmond is about 15 minutes east
of Stillwater.
http://willowriverbluesfest.com/
$12 in advance, $20 at the gate. Music has no cover charge
so that price would include the music.
According to the site 6 breweries will have staff there
and another 13 breweries will have their beer represented
for sampling but I guess won't be there in person.
This is the first year they've done this so I can't
really speak for how it works or well run it will be.

Hello Fellowbrewers,It’s that time to start thinking about Minnesota State Fair Homebrew Competition and Committee. State Fair competition has grown dramatically in couple years and the deadline starts in mid-July which only 2 short months away so we need lead time for committee work, preparation, setting up, getting volunteers and judges, publicity etc. I’m looking for Committee head volunteers specifically. Publicity? Contest? Hospitality? Office? The choice is yours. If you have a preference on what you like to do, please let me know. Please reply to this email if you have any talents you’d be willing to offer for this event. Please email (morelia1 at q dot com) or call me (651 604 0314) with your choice. If you have ANY questions about the positions, tasks, etc. please, again call or email me. I'd be more than happy to help. (Please forward all local homebrew clubs.) Regards,Sean P. Anyone want an electrically powered "cold plate" cooler? No ice needed.

Ever since Big Brew day I have been meaning to send this note. A few people seemed surprised to learn you could buy a cheap but good refractometer for ~$25 including shipping. I have one of these and it is the same thing as the one we were using that day which someone had paid more like $50 for. These are metal, have ATC auto temperature correction (I think because of the metal body?), a hard case, many pipettes, and all you need.
You can see an example here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/25-Alcohol-40-Brix-Refractometer-ATC-Sugar-Wine-beer_W0…
Or search for the text: Brix Refractometer ATC Sugar Wine beer
It will come to about $23 including shipping, so that's not a bad price for a cool tool.
cheers,
don

Subject: The Four Firkins will be open Saturday 24th!
Craft Beer drinkers and friends!
Tomorrow is the big day! I will open the doors here at The Four Firkins at
10am on Saturday morning the 24th of May.
I'm still waiting on various things like shirts and signs but the most
important thing is the Beer and it's ready to sell!
There will be samples of beer to taste from 5pm into the evening with the
highlight being a limited quantity of the Avery Fifteenth Anniversary Ale. -
A refreshingly tart, fruity, funky, farmhouse Ale brewed with black mission
figs, hibiscus flowers and white pepper. Fermented with 100% Brettanomyces (
Wild Yeast).
I will open a few bottles of this at 6pm, don't miss out!
Parking will be tight, you might want to park at the empty commercial space
that is kitty-corner to the Firkins on the NE side of Texas and Minnetonka
Blvd and walk across the road.
Or - Ride your bike and park it in the bike rack I have at the store for
you!
A big thanks to everyone who has helped out along the way and made this
possible!
See you tomorrow!

Summit Brewing Company Kicks Off Beer Movie Contest
Calling all beer lovers, filmmakers, and beer-loving wannabe filmmakers
ST. PAUL, MN - (April 14, 2008) - On April 17th, Summit
Brewing Company will start accepting entries for the first ever Summit Beer
Movie Contest. The contest asks Minnesotans to make a short film, 5 minutes
or less, that includes a Summit beer product placement. Since the brewery's
start back in 1986, Summit has supported the vibrant creative community of
Minnesota through sponsorships and donations. Now is the chance for that
creativity to converge with the art of craft beer in the form of a Summit
beer movie.
"We want to see the creativity that our beer drinkers have hidden within
them. This is not just a call for a beer commercial-we really want to see
what people can come up with, whether they be a Summit beer drinker
professing their love or a budding filmmaker with a story to tell," said
Mark Stutrud, CEO and founder of Summit Brewing Company.
The beer movie contest is part of Summit's newest website launched this past
summer -the interactive, video-driven, www.thesocialelement.com. This
supplemental website was developed to tell the stories of both Summit
drinkers and the brewery itself. With videos ranging from Nordic battle
reenactors, to free runners, to Lake Superior surfers, and a weekly blog
from Summit employees, the website explores what brings people together in
an entertaining, visual format.
All films and entrants from the beer movie contest are eligible for
placement on www.thesocialelement.com as well as attendance to the brewery
screening party, with the top three films being awarded prizes. A jury of
Summit employees, Paul Creager of the Square Lake Film & Music Festival, and
Chris Pennington of the 10-Second Film Festival, will judge all submissions.
The first place winner will receive $1000 cash, 12 cases of Summit beer, and
a private party at the brewery. Second place receives $500 cash, 6 cases of
Summit beer, and $50 in Summit merchandise. Third place receives $250 cash,
3 cases of beer, and $25 in Summit merchandise. Winning films will also be
shown at the Square Lake Film <http://www.solsticefestival.org/> & Music
Festival on August 16. The contest runs April 21-May 27, with winners to be
announced on or before June 9. Further contest guidelines can be found at
www.thesocialelement.com.
So get out your video cameras, your creativity, your favorite Summit beer,
and make a Summit Beer Movie!

Summit Brewing Company was founded in St. Paul, MN in 1986, and has stayed
close to its roots, serving the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region. It is
currently available in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa,
Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania,
Colorado and Montana. Summit produces eleven varieties of premium craft
beer, including six year-round and five seasonal beers. In 2004, the
brewery began producing limited production, draft only beers, offered
primarily in the greater metropolitan area of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Since its inception, the company's sales have consistently outpaced the
industry, highlighted by significant annual sales growth over the past seven
years.
Hi All, the campout is fast approaching. With that being the case, I
better get this information out to everybody. Please pass this
information on to all of the clubs, as I do not know who they all are
and how to get a hold of them.
The Rahr Malting tour is scheduled for Friday June 6th in the
afternoon at 2:00 P.M. Please try to arrive @ 1:45 as we would like to
have everybody there by 2:00.
Parking will be in their main lot just inside the main entrance and to
the right. The entrance is marked with one of their green and gold
triangular logo signs. Not hard to find. We will all gather at the lot
and move on once we think everybody is there that is coming. The
address of Rahr Malting is 800 West First Avenue Shakopee Mn 55379.
and there web address is www.rahr.com
The Crofut Family Winery and Vineyard tour is scheduled for Saturday
June 7th @ 1:00 P.M. The tour will cost 3.00 per person. Don told me
that he will make it well worth our 3.00 as this will include a full
tasting and tour of both the winery and vineyard. He is very excited
to have the clubs come out to see his operation. He has some sort of a
patio where you may purchase a bottle and sit and enjoy it there if
you would like.
The address is 21646 Langford Avenue South Jordan Mn.55352
They do have great directions posted on their web site, it is
www.crofutwinery.com
Both of these tours are within 10 miles of the campgrounds.
Please feel free to call me or email me with questions
Hope to see you all there, Cheers!!!

See-
I TOLD you spring would arrive, and now you're excited to tailgate OUTSIDE
for an OUTDOOR baseball game next Thursday, the 22nd!
Gates open at 4:00, and if history repeats itself, many will be tailgating
by 4:05. Arrive when you can (those who signed up for tickets), but please
bring chairs, something to grill, something to share, and plenty of
homebrew. Remember-it's May, it's outdoors, and it's MINNESOTA, so dress
for anything and everything.
I'll be bringing a grill, but if someone else could respond to me, telling
me that you'll bring another, that would be swell.
The game begins at 7:05. I'll have the tickets at the tailgating spot,
which should be #5. It's not difficult to find us this early in the season.
The tailgating spots are on the north side of the main (only) Midway Stadium
parking lot, which is on the north side of Energy Park Drive, just to the
west of the stadium. The whole stadium is just west of Snelling on Energy
Park Drive in Saint Paul.

Fire away with questions, and we'll see you next Thursday!
