Like me, I bet thee wants to assist Byggvir in the tasting and merriment of the Big Beer Cup at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival September 1st through September 3rd! Heed yee this warning: this beer judging and stewarding be important, and requires diligence and good work. In addition, this is a job for the elderly, you MUST be 21 to judge at Byggvir's table.
If yee wants to join the fun and partake in the judging merriment, register yourself here at the site as a volunteer. The link is provided below. We look forward to the sight of yee at our tasting table!
Here's what to expect:
You are provided free entry into the Minnesota Renaissance Festival on the day(s) that you are scheduled to volunteer. You are required to work your requested shift(s). The contest hours allow for plenty of time to enjoy the Festival either before or after the contest/demo times.
Family members are encouraged to sign up to help, but they must be willing to work and must be at least 21 years of age. Please sign up before the contest to volunteer, so we can make sure your name is on the day's list for free entry. Responsibilities will be reviewed before the shift begins.
You are required to wear a Renaissance Costume or Contest-provided T-Shirt while you are volunteering. This is covered in more detail on the volunteer form.
You do not have to be a BJCP Judge to participate. If possible, all tables will be assigned at least one BJCP Judge.
See Yee at the Big Beer Cup!

Fellow TC brewers:
We have a unique opportunity for media coverage. I looking for 1-3 volunteers to be interviewed by KTSP, follow you through the process of making your brew and then shoot video of judging and awards. Obviously, the brewing process would have to severally truncated because a film crew isn't going to stand around and watch water boil.
Here's some of requirements:
a) need to be entered or entering the Minnesota State Fair HBC.
b) must brew his/her MSF entrant beer, mead or cider (again)
c) must be available Tuesday, a Wednesday or a Thursday between 11am and 2pm.
d) TC brewer
Please reply ASAP and privately and not to the group(s).
If you have ANY questions or comments, please email me. I'd be more than happy to help.
Please forward to St. Paul HBC and other (local) brewing groups. Thanks!
Regards,
Sean P. Hewitt

[Original e-mail]
I'm a news producer in charge of MN State Fair coverage for KSTP-TV, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. I would like to do a story on the Home Brewers competition. The goal would be to meet a home brewer at his or her home, follow him through the process of making his brew, and then shoot video of judging and awards.
We're flexible on the time and date of any shoot. But a time on a Tuesday, a Wednesday or a Thursday between 11am and 2pm works best.
(If someone with SPHBC access could please forward this to that listserve, then I would be most appreciative--thanks!)
SORRY!
I was typing the bus trip invitation over the course of a few weeks, and had October 13th (the original date) in the text. There is a huge Badger game in Madison that weekend, thus hotels have been booked solid for one year.
The ACTUAL date of BEER GOOD BUS TOUR IV is October 20th-21st. I have a more complete itinerary today as well, due to some proprietors finally calling back. The message I sent yesterday follows this new itinerary.
Saturday, October 20th
7:00 a.m. = leave Saint Paul
7:01 a.m. = People's Choice competition
10:30 = tour Carr Valley Cheese
12:00 = lunch at Corner Pub in Reedsburg
2:30 = tour Lake Louie Brewing
4:00 = tour Capital Brewing
5:30 = J.T. Whitney's
7:00 = dinner at the Grumpy Troll Brewpub in Mt. Horeb
9:00 = hotel across the street from the Great Dane in Fitchburg ($99)
Sunday, October 21st
8:30 = tour Blue Mount Cheese
10:30 = Wollersheim Winery
1:00 = lunch at Roxbury Pub
3:00 = Moosejaw Brewpub, WI Dells
6:00 = dinner at Das Bierhaus, Menomonie
9:00 = arrive in Saint Paul
You've heard the stories.
You know it's not to be missed.
You've been waiting for this message to appear.
Now it's time to sign up for BEER GOOD BUS TRIP IV. For those who don't know, each fall I organize a bus trip through Wisconsin, focusing on brewpubs, but stopping at other places of interest as well. It all began when Al Boyce got us on a bus to the AHA National Convention in Chicago and we stopped at various beer hubs going out and coming back. Two years ago I took a group straight across WI, hitting eleven beer stops, last year we went through northern 'Sconnie, and this year we head down toward Madison. We take a luxury coach, complete with bathroom and movies.
I'm still finalizing a few stops, but on Saturday and Sunday, October 20th and 21st, we'll hit no fewer than six brewpubs, two microbreweries, one winery, and one cheesery(?)! We'll have the people's choice contest to start the trip (around 7:00 a.m. Saturday), and will return around 9:00 Sunday evening. We'll stay overnight in Madison, within staggering distance from Great Dane. Assuming 30 people come along, the bus cost will be around $60 per person. Just to be clear, I always pay the same amount for the bus and hotel as everyone. I don't pay my way off the rest of the group.
Don't be left behind. Send your non-refundable $50 deposit to John Longballa, 1211 Minnehaha Ave W, Saint Paul, MN 55104. Please include all contact information, including e-dress, and please indicate how you would prefer the room situation to be for your group. More details to follow, but I won't take more than 35 people, so don't delay!
Thanks, John
Hey Folks-
Just a little teaser for you to think about if you're on the fence
(besides the tour that is, I hope I can find all the keys I need and I
hope I don't get us all lost in the cellars...) By the way, bring your
cameras for the tour...you'll get to see a couple of the old Cyprus
fermentation tanks that were still in use not that long ago. Where else
in the US are you going to see that? But I digress...
I'm going be serving some Bier von dem Fass at the event. Let's call it
Kellerbier or Zwickel Bier, your choice...Unfiltered Pils from the Ruh
tank served gravity pour via my new super-nifty German Keg thingy do-dad.
I'll try to figure out how the heck it works before then, or maybe we'll
just roll with the punches. We'll have some Pils in a keg with some taps
and a hammer...our task will be to figure out how to get it out...
Cheers!

OK, Now that I have your attention, will the owner of the dark green
windbreaker please come forward. I know that beer was served back on
May 5th for Big Brew but someone left us a great wind breaker.
Unfortunately, you forgot to put your name on it or leave us a tip.
Give me a call or send me a message. It is really a nice jacket
recently discovered in the shed.
Disregard the subject line.
