(as always, if someone would be kind enough to forward this to sphbc . . . )
The bus is half full (or is it half-empty? . . . ) after less than one week of solicitations, so read the following quickly and carefully, then round up a spouse (many women come on this trip), friend, relative, neighbor, or co-worker, and send in your deposit. I'll take no more than 35 people, so act now! :) We will have plenty of room on the bus, as it seats 47, but we only take 30-35.
I'll set the scene--
You awaken just after sunrise on a deliciously crisp cool fall morn, and an immediate smile dawns on your countenance as you realize that for the next two days, all you need to do is sample Wisconsin beer, wine, and cheese, with no thought of driving, no thought of directions, indeed--almost no thought whatsoever.
The fall colors are spectacular as you are chauffeured through the rolling Wisconsin countryside, homebrews periodically coming your way. Great music and film gently caress your senses when you aren't taking a delightful cat nap in your luxury bus seat. There's a clean restroom always at the ready, and the other 30+ folks on the bus are tender, kind-hearted beer connoissuers just like you.
Every so often, the bus stops at a brewpub, microbrewery, winery, or cheesery. You sample, stretch, enjoy the warm fall sun on some patios, and finally, when sated, retire to the bus for a short repose till the next fun destination. You think to yourself, "wow--at $3.00+/gallon, I couldn't drive myself to all these places for anything near the $60 I paid for the entire bus ride!"
When all is said and done on Saturday, you have a lovely hotel to sleep in, while the Great Dane Brewpub beckons from across the street. Upon waking Sunday, the hotel serves a hot breakfast buffet, and then it's on to a special stop at Bleu Mont Cheese. The guy makes it himself in caves, and for $15 per person, we’re going to tour his operation, sample two of his wares, and each person takes home ½ pound of his best stuff! Then we will take our booty and eat it at the nearby winery, overlooking the WI River. Lunch Sunday is at an English-style pub, and dinner Sunday is at a German-style brewpub that specializes in German lagers.
The original message follows, but by now you should be on your way to your checkbook to write out the deposit! You really don't want to miss this one!

Now it's time to sign up for BEER GOOD BUS TRIP IV. For those who don't know, each fall I organize a bus trip through Wisconsin, focusing on brewpubs, but stopping at other places of interest as well. It all began when Al Boyce got us on a bus to the AHA National Convention in Chicago and we stopped at various beer hubs going out and coming back. Two years ago I took a group straight across WI, hitting eleven beer stops, last year we went through northern 'Sconnie, and this year we head down toward Madison. We take a luxury coach, complete with bathroom and movies.
We'll have the people's choice contest to start the trip (around 7:00 a.m. Saturday), and will return around 9:00 Sunday evening. We'll stay overnight in Madison, within staggering distance from Great Dane. Assuming 30 people come along, the bus cost will be around $60 per person. Just to be clear, I always pay the same amount for the bus and hotel as everyone. I don't pay my way off the rest of the group.
Don't be left behind. Send your non-refundable $50 deposit to John Longballa, 1211 Minnehaha Ave W, Saint Paul, MN 55104. Please include all contact information, including e-dress, and please indicate how you would prefer the room situation to be for your group. I won't take more than 35 people, so don't delay!
Thanks, John

Subject: [mnbrewers] Mead Day Updates!
I know there have been some questions brewing with regards to honey
purchases during Mead Day (...Aug 4th...), so I'm sending an email to make
some clarifications.
I called Russ Johnson, the bee-man, this morning to check his inventory. He
will be harvesting close to 1000# of honey this weekend, so there will be
plenty to go around. He has basswood and clover varietals. The cost of the
honey is $2.25/# if you bring your own container, otherwise you will be
charged for a bucket/jug/etc.
Could someone please pass this on to the other boards and forums.
Cheers,
Jon Messier

If you haven't received the glasses and are an AHA member here's some
info from Tech Talk
From: Gary Glass [mailto:gary@brewersassociation.org]
Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2007 1:01 PM
Subject: Samuel Adams Pint Glass Questions
Hi all,
We've received a number of questions regarding the Samuel Adams pint
glasses that Boston Beer Company sent to members of the AHA. Please see
the message below from Boston Beer Company:
>>>
We're more than happy to send glasses to AHA members we may have missed.
Unfortunately, we may not have been able to verify a member's age (must
be 21+ years old). Legal restrictions also prohibit us from sending the
glasses to your members who live in California and Texas.
AHA members who did not receive their glasses can call The Boston Beer
Company at 1-800-372-1131 to:
- Verify that they were a member of the AHA as of June 7, 2007
- Provide proof that that they don't live in California or Texas
- Provide proof that they are over the age of 21
<<<
The age verification system that Boston Beer Co used could not verify
every member's age (meaning the verification system did not have an age
associated with every member). They did not send glasses to AHA members
for whom they could not verify an age. (Those AHA members who have not
received glasses and who call the brewery, will be asked to verify their
age, for example by faxing a copy of their valid drivers license.)
The names and addresses (no other information was included) of AHA
members that was sent to Boston Beer was valid as of June 7, 2007, so no
one joining after June 7 would have been included in this promotion.
Boston Beer Co is only able to send glasses to members with U.S. (except
for Texas and California) addresses.
As this is a Boston Beer Co promotion and not an AHA program or benefit,
please refer any questions regarding the glasses to Boston Beer Company.

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Get you plastic buckets ready, Mead Day is upon us!
National Mead Day!
Johnson Farm--23114 Variolite St., Elk River
10-2: mead demonstrations tour the beehives and honey extraction
facilities Sat, Aug 04 @ 10:00
The Johnsons have graciously invited us back to their apiary! Come
join the fun and see how a bee farm is run. From how bees are kept
through the honey extraction process, this is an event not to be missed!
Wilbur and Team Roadkill have made the bus available gain this year,
so if you'd like a ride please contact me ASAP to get your name on the
list. There are a limited number of seats, and the price for
transportation will rest on the number of participants.
The technical topic this month will be a discussion on properly
judging mead. It seems that there are always great fluctuations in
mead scores between different judges and different contests. Perhaps
by presenting some of the key aspects that make a great/poor mead
including flavor, aroma, acid balance etc we will get a more uniform
concept of judging.
Of course people will be making mead all day, so if you'd like to see
how it's done, or would like to partake in the making bring your
yeast, buckets and honey.
Cheers,
Jon Messier

jonmessier(a)hotmail.com
P.S. - The cost of the bus will depend on the number of people we get to
sign up. If there are more than 10 people it should be under $20 per
person. The tentative meeting place is Midwest Supply parking lot at about
8:00 AM. Space is limited to approximately 30 people, so don't wait to sign
up. Also as a thank you to Wilbur for being sober driver we are asking for
beer and mead donations.
Hopefully Wilbur will NOT be drunk WHILE he's driving the bus... ;-D

From: Jon Messier <messjo01(a)yahoo.com>
Hello everyone!
If you would like to get on the bus to Elk River for Mead Day, please get back to me ASAP. I want to have the full list be Wed., Aug. 1.
The cost to get the bus is $200 + 1 bottle of mead/beer per traveler. The more people we can get on the bus the better, and the happier/drunker Wilbur will be!
Cheers,
Jon Messier

Fellow TC brewers:
We have a unique opportunity for media coverage. I looking for 1-3 volunteers to be interviewed by KTSP, follow you through the process of making your brew and then shoot video of judging and awards. Obviously, the brewing process would have to severally truncated because a film crew isn't going to stand around and watch water boil.
Here's some of requirements:
a) need to be entered or entering the Minnesota State Fair HBC.
b) must brew his/her MSF entrant beer, mead or cider (again)
c) must be available Tuesday, a Wednesday or a Thursday between 11am and 2pm.
d) TC brewer
Please reply ASAP and privately and not to the group(s). Thanks to all that already volunteered.
If you have ANY questions or comments, please email me. I'd be more than happy to help.
Please forward to St. Paul HBC and other (local) brewing groups. Thanks!
