--PLEASE FORWARD TO HOMEBREW CLUB MEMBERS IMMEDIATELY--
Greetings! The 2007 Statewide Homebrew Campout, June 28 - July 1, is
quickly approaching and I hope everyone is planning to attend!
This year we will be at a private campground (the only group there, as
far as I know) about a mile north of New Ulm--Oak Haven Campground,
operated by Kevin & Kathy Finsted, sits on a hilltop approx. 0.3 miles
north of the intersection of US-14 and MN-15 (on MN-15).
We have a group reservation, so there is no need for advance
reservations--just show up. Cost is $18/site/night. There are asphalt
pads and electric hook-up for RVs and campers (no water hook-up). There
are plenty of shady spots for tents, as well. There is a large, open
lawn near the shelter house & picnic tables, and two firepits (one near
the shelter house, one in the shady area). There is an air-conditioned
building with full kitchen & dining facilities, as well as showers and
flush toilets. If you don't like to camp, there are plenty of hotels
and B&Bs in New Ulm. If you are unable to commit for the entire
weekend, it is perfectly acceptable to drive out for just a few hours
(just make sure you have a sober person to drive home).
There are a number of special events planned for the weekend:
(Of course, if you want to just chill in your lawn chair and
drink homebrew all weekend, that's fine, too.)
- Friday evening 6:00pm outing to Morgan Creek Vineyards 8
miles SE of New Ulm
- Saturday morning 9:00am special all-access tour of Schell's
Brewery, led by Dave Berg
(due to other work committments for Dave, 9:00am was
our only option--sorry!)
- Saturday morning 10:00am judging for annual homebrew competition
- Dave has offered Schell's old taproom for our use
- Saturday late afternoon first annual Cook-Off
competition!!! 4 teams will be cooking entrees involving Pork & Beer
- Saturday evening 7:00pm group dinner, hosted by the Timberworts
club cost: $5/person
- Sunday morning 9:00am communal breakfast - one final feast
for the road!
Also, we are working on arranging a time for a road-trip over to Lucan,
MN to check out Brau Brothers Brewing's new 15 bbl set-up; possible
times being suggested to Dusty are Saturday afternoon or Sunday noon.
For complete details (and photos) of all this and more, please check out
the campout website:

I'm looking forward to seeing everybody at New Ulm in two weeks.
This campout is gonna ROCK!
Bring your friends.
(And don't forget to bring homebrew!)

I've already have some media contacts for Minnesota State Fair, I'll eventually need volunteers (maybe to brew on-site, help out, assist, etc.)
Please pass this along to your homebrew friends!!
I've tried to pass this to other MN clubs if anyone belongs to another list(s) and doesn't see this post, please cross-post. We're halfway through the 2007 circuit. For the 6th time in 6 of 12
contests we've had a lead change.
Results are here: http://www.sphbc.org/mwhboy/
So far 383 different brewers or teams have competed. Of those 383, 159
have earned medals.
Next in the circuit is Schooner in September: http://www.theschooner.org/
I've been keeping the stats for the MHY circuit for about 2 years now.
I'd like to hand this off to someone in January '08. Email me if you are
interested in running this.

If anyone wants cases of bottles without labels (and, I think, a case or two of Grolsch-style bottles), I will have many with me for the taking at the MhBA meeting at Summit on Saturday.
Betsy
Could someone volunteer to update the club flyer and get it done by next
Wednesday? I'd like to take some copies to Nationals in Denver.
The latest version that I know of is attached. Along with the text,
some of the pictures could benefit from more recent updates.
If not, I'll take a copy of the current newsletter which should be
published momentarily.
thanks!

Al sent this out about a week and a half ago:
The June meeting for the MhBA has moved to Saturday, June 9th from 3:30 to 6
pm at the Summit Brewery.
MhBA President Gera Exire LaTour is the meeting host.
The technical topic will be: Filling Bottles From Kegs, given by Chris
Smith. Everyone is invited to bring their Counter-Pressure Bottle Filler,
or whatever other gizmo you have for bottle filling from kegs, so everyone
else can see the myriad different methods.
Style of the month is BJCP Style #1, Light Lagers - if you have one, bring
it in to participate in the MhBA Style of the Month program.
As always, any other homebrewed Beers, Meads, and Ciders you'd like to share
and/or have evaluated by your fellow club members are welcome.
A great big thanks to Mark Stutrud and Summit brewing for clearing his
calendar to allow us to meet at Summit next month!
