Hello Homebrewing Clubs,
Yes. It’s that time to start thinking about Minnesota State Fair Homebrew Competition. I’m looking for Committee head volunteers specifically. Contest? Hospitality? Office? The choice is yours. If you have a preference on what you like to do, please let me know. Please reply to this email if you have any talents you’d be willing to offer for this event. (Database and Publicity positions are taken.)
State Fair competition has grown dramatically (tripled it’s entries) in three years and the deadline starts in mid-July which only 2 short months away so we need lead time for committee work, preparation, setting up, getting volunteers and judges, publicity etc.
Please email (morelia1 at prodigy dot net) or call me (651 604 0314) with your choice. If you have ANY questions about the postions, tasks, etc. please, again call or email me. I'd be more than happy to help.
Regards,
Sean P. Hewitt

Is anyone interested in taking over running the Midwest Homebrewer of
the Year circuit?
Basically, it involves keeping the stats in a timely manner, posting the
results and awarding the trophy every January at the Upper Mississippi
Mash-Out.
The All-Club campout will be held in New Ulm this year, June 29-July 1.
Where are our club BBQ Experts to take up this challenge???

complete rules and information, please go to the "Cook Off" tab on the
campout webpage: http://akoster.mysite.com (If you still have
questions, contact me <kosteral(a)juno.com> or either of the Cook-Off
organizers, Amy <determana(a)charter.net> or Pam <pking.blo(a)chartermi.net>)
If all y'all are TOO AFRAID to enter the Cook-Off competition,
there will still be a competition but it will be a TIMBERWORTS

A friend of mine is getting a new refrigerator, so he has an old one to give away (as in FREE) just for hauling it away. Supposedly it works fine. Drop me an email if you're interested in it. I'll forward the first email I get to my friend, and I'll let the list know that it's spoken for.

Hi,
Beer. So much beer. Did you ever think you would see a bar in Minnesota with three Flemish sour ales on tap at one time? Or 50 different Belgian beers and 80+ whiskies? You, the patrons of The Muddy Pig, are the best customers in the state. Thank you.
Now its time to show you have a big heart as well as good taste. The weekend of June 9-10 will see me riding the MS150 to raise money for the MS Society of Minnesota. Two days and 150 miles on a bicycle in sunny, cloudy, wet, dry, windy, cold, hot, foggy weather (and thats all in one day) to raise money for the cause. You can do your part by becoming a sponsor.
Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated and making the donation couldnt be easier. Simply drop off a check at The Muddy Pig made out to the MS Society of Minnesota or donate on-line at www.mssociety.org , click on ePledge and search Mark van Wie. Making a donation is way easier than riding.
And for all you golfers, the 4th annual Muddy Pig Golf Snouting will be held Monday, June 18th at high noon. We will be playing Clifton Highlands just north of Prescott, Wisconsin this year and all funds raised will again be going to the Childrens Home Society & Family Services. Scramble format and your $85 entry fee includes golf, cart, dinner at The Muddy Pig, prizes and lots of fun. Registration forms are available at The Pig.
So heres the deal. Well keep serving the best beers in the world, great whisky and yummy food in the best bar in the cities and you will make a donation to the MS Society and go golfing with us on the 19th. And thank you.

The June meeting for the MhBA has moved to Saturday, June 9th from 3:30 to 6 pm at the Summit Brewery.
MhBA President Gera Exire LaTour is the meeting host.
The technical topic will be: Filling Bottles From Kegs, given by Chris Smith. Everyone is invited to bring their Counter-Pressure Bottle Filler, or whatever other gizmo you have for bottle filling from kegs, so everyone else can see the myriad different methods.
Style of the month is BJCP Style #1, Light Lagers - if you have one, bring it in to participate in the MhBA Style of the Month program.
As always, any other homebrewed Beers, Meads, and Ciders you'd like to share and/or have evaluated by your fellow club members are welcome.
A great big thanks to Mark Stutrud and Summit brewing for clearing his calendar to allow us to meet at Summit next month!

Hello,
This is the last call for signing up for the our English yeast comparison
project. All brewers are welcome, including all-grain, partial mash, and
extract brewers. This is a great chance to learn about an important class
of ale yeasts, and will help all of us craft fine English ales. Please
contact me (adam_stern(a)hotmail.com) if interested.
Thanks,
Adam

Greetings,
Our new beer, Curly Tail Ale is available only at Midway Stadium, home
of the St. Paul Saints. We brewed this beer in honor of their 15th
anniversary. The first kegs arrived at the stadium yesterday for the
home opener. Curly Tail Ale is an ordinary bitter, but don't be afraid
of the word bitter. This beer is slightly sweet and smooth, with a touch
of chocolate in the after taste. We used Golden Promise malt, medium and
dark crystal malt, chocolate malt and brown sugar. It is hopped with
three addition of UK Fuggles. Get out to the ball park and watch some
outdoor baseball and grab a pint, available at the third base concession
area.
Cheers,
Jeff Williamson
