We'll be on the first floor in the Aragon Ballroom. Make sure you've got
your formal attire!
When you walk in the main entrance of the hotel head straight past the main
desk and then turn off to the right and go down the hall. At the end of the
hall take left and you;re there.

Curt, I think the St. Paul club did a bang up job getting the campout out of the bugs and swamp and into the next century. Personally, I may avoid driving through Cocato just because of horrible weather that happens every time I'm close. I know it rains and pours but can't remember a campout at that location that was dry.
Actually last year was the best. I drove a car. It rained multiple times. Early in the morning, as another storm approached, I filled it up with stuff and left. One year, I had two webbers, club cooler, and kegs tied onto the scooter and trailer. Everyone left before I was able to pack and get up the greasy hill. Not my kind of fun at all.
Some folks are hard core campers with tents and sleeping bags. Some folks have fancy trailers and RV's. Personally, I look forward to the variety of this event and will not worry at all about the cost or lack of "personal space." Possibly we should reserve one area for the people that are inclined to snore more than others. You know who you are.
Won't see you at the mashout.

Mike,
I understand your concerns, and they may be valid points. As a representative of the SPHBClub I can state the we know what a campout is. This will be a different venue than past campout events and we'll have to wait and see if it will be a failure or not.
We will be sharing the location with other people. That doesn't mean you have to sleep with them, or even talk to them if you don't want to. Dan Jutsen was kind enough to offer to share the location with us. These other folks may even have an interest in homebrewing. As homebrew clubs, one of our goals is to teach people about beer and bring new brewers into the hobby. This may be a good chance to provide that very function.
When the SPHBC was given the responsibility to host this years event, many suggestions were made to me on how the campout could be improved. The most common suggestion was the selection of a more modern site, even if it would cost a fee. $35 per adult for the weekend seems pretty fair to me. But I could be wrong. Also it could be cheaper if we have more people attend.
I have only participated in one Club Campout so far (last year), so I don't have a full grasp on the history of the event. So basically I'm giving it my best shot with the help and backing of our membership. I know you are an avid camper and would obviously enjoy the hardcore camping to the current event. But some people may prefer this year's venue. I guess pleasing everyone would be nearly impossible. Once again we'll see what people think when it's all over.
I hope you attend and help make it a fun event.
Anyone is welcome to comment and respond.
Thanks

I just got a chance to look at the campout info and I have to say I'm a
little disappointed. Maybe there was some misunderstanding on the part of
the SPHB about this event being a CAMPOUT for the area homebrew clubs.
Who are these other folks, and why do we have to pay $35 to sleep with them
in bunkbeds? I for one was looking forward to camping with our friends and
it appears that it is not allowed at the location. The All-club event is
meant to bring the area clubs together for sharing homebrew and camaraderie.
Anyone else confused by the campout with no camping? Lastly, anybody catch
the rule about having to mop and clean the showers and toilets? :-(

Fair Warning:
Tickets for the Great Taste of the Midwest craft beer festival in
Madison go on
sale May 1st. That's 1 week from Saturday. Last year tickets sold out
in 10
days. If this year's pre-sales email volume is any indication then
tickets
will sell out even faster.
I'm writing to you because I know you're all beer geeks and would not
want to
be shut out of this event, if you'd planned to go. Mail your orders
this
Wednesday, April 28th or Thursday, April 29th to make sure that they're
received by May 1st. In other words, get your ticket order in on day
one if
you want to go. If you're ordering enough tickets to fill a bus, please
mark
the envelope "Group Ticket Sales". And, please, tell your beer-loving
friends!
Ticket pricing, ordering details, etc are on our website. I won't waste
bandwidth with that here. See http://mhtg.org/gt2004.html.
See you in August,

Many of us conferred at the BJCP class - not just the St. Paul folks, and
thought that it was a swell place. Many other campgrounds were called, and
all the ones that had A) REAL toilets, B) Allowed BEER, and C) Were CLOSE
to the cities were already taken.
Re: Cleaning... no big deal with all of the people that will be there. And
it's a good trade from having to put away wet gear, put it up again in the
sun at home, and then put it away one last time.
I say give it a chance!

Hey all,
We have a beer release Thursday 5/6. Stop in at the Town Hall Brewery (1430 Washington Ave S.) and have a pint of the popular Columbus American Pale Ale for just $1/pint from 5-6 Thursday 5/6.
This beer has returned because many of you asked for it, also I kinda like it. Columbus is named for the most dominent hop, of the same name, used to make this beer.
Don't forget the Maibock Fest May 15th....details to come
Mike
Sorry so late with this email, I was busy trying to keep up with your thirst.....good work
