Hey All,
Spring is here????? That means one thing....St.Patricks Day! We will release our annual beer (Pot of Gold Potato Stout) for the event this Thursday 3/11. Stop in this Thursday at the Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery and give it a shot for just $1 per pint from 5-6pm. Many of you like to float this beer over the IPA. Will it float or not? You will have to come and try it to find out.
I can promise you it will float on the beer that we hope to release next week. If you are good and drink the rest of the Blackberry Wheat by next Thursday we will release BIG TICKET DOUBLE IPA. This is a beer Josh and I made months ago and are very pleased with...if you think we have made some hoppy beers before, you have not seen anything yet. Don't worry we made it sweet enough to balance the bitterness....a little
If you like Grand Cru, drink it now because the LAST keg is tapped
Mike
Howdy club members. Tex here with an exciting invite for y'all to our first annual Chili Contest. It's true folks, we heard rumors of chili shortages from Iowa to Canada; you must be preparing for the big event. It's also true I recently returned from a wonderful week in Texas.
In case you haven't heard or really just dislike chili, the club is also having a swap meet so you may be able to swap some of your unused really neat beer stuff for somebody elses' really neat and unused beer stuff. You get the picture.
Cook your best chili and come down or over or up to the CSPS hall this Saturday, March 13. The big event starts around 2:30. If you don't know where the CSPS hall is, go to the Glockenspiel (on west 7th in St. Paul) and find the stairway to the second floor. If you have a really really heavy container or need assistance, use the elevator available from the side door entrance.
Remember, to enter the contest you need to follow the rules. Bring your best Red (no beans); Anything goes (yep); or Green (verde). Include the recipe (meaning the recipe you actually used). Judging starts after everything is warm.
The club currently has a medium large supply of throw away bowls but is low on plastic silver ware. Please bring your own spoon.
Ok, let's review. This Saturday, bring you chili and beer stuff to the contest. Go home with chili breath, a smile, and new beer stuff!
See you Saturday -

doing partial retakes - the tasting portion will start at 11:00 AM.

PM
Hi There! I was wondering if someone in your club could post our
competition
on your eMail List Server. Thanks.
Cheers,
Rodney
Here is the event and call to judges posting:
6th Annual Drunk Monk Challenge
Fellow homebrewers and beer judges,
It's nearly spring... that can only mean one thing: It's time for the 6th
Annual Urban Knaves of Grain Drunk Monk Challenge! The DMC is an AHA
sanctioned competition, a qualifying event for the MCAB (Master
Championship of
Amateur Brewing), and a leg of Midwest Homebrewer of the Year.
In addition to the BJCP categories of beer, mead, and cider, we'll once
again
feature our own special category, the Menace of the Monastery, for beer
styles with roots in the monastic brewing traditions of Belgium and
Germany:
Belgian dubbel, tripel, pale, strong pale, and strong dark ales, plus
German
doppelbock. This year, the winner of Best of Show will have the opportunity
to brew
their beer at Walter Payton's Roundhouse, while the Menace of the Monastery
champion will have the same opportunity at Govnor's Pub, in Lake of the
Hills, IL.
The competition will be held on Saturday, March 20th, at Walter Payton's
Roundhouse - America's Brewery, in Aurora IL. Entries will be accepted
between
March 1st thru March 13th. Please visit the competition website for
additional
information, forms, and on-line registration:
http://www.knaves.org/dmc/
If you are interested in judging at the DMC, please contact Mike Uchima by
e-mail at uchima(a)pobox.com, or by phone at 630-416-9518. We will need to
know
your current BJCP experience level; what styles you are entering in the
competition (if any); and any styles you would prefer to judge (or not
judge). Thanks.
Cheers!

Chili recipe, that is, for the first annual MHBA Chili Cookoff?
The prize committee has been busy gathering chili-related prizes.
The panel of judges is ready.
One contender tells me he's making his famed Dead Guy chili. I asked if he
uses real dead guys, but he says it's a secret. Might want to avoid that one.
Don't forget the beer, chips, salsa, cornbread, etc.
See you at the CSPS Hall on 3/13 at 2:30.
