Medical-device maker Medtronic Inc. expects to release 60 "major" products
during the fiscal year that runs through next April and isn't eying large-scale
acquisitions, the company's chairman said Monday.
The Minneapolis-based company, which expects to spend $8 billion to $10 billion on
research and development over the next five years, has been focused in recent years on
growing through internal developments or products acquired through smaller-scale deals.
Larger-scale, transformational deals are "not on the radar," Bill Hawkins,
Medtronic's chairman and chief executive, said during an analyst-and-investor meeting
the company hosted.
