Hey Gera--

Thanks again for taking time to Skype with my last Friday. I can't recall if I sent the casting letter to you or not, but it's attached to this email.

As discussed, is there anyway to get in touch with the current MHBA president to post/email our request out to members? I'd love to canvas Minnesota with our request ;) Is there a member email chain or forum that most members have access to view our request?

Thanks again Gera, hope you had a good weekend and a good week ahead!

Hello.

Chip Walton suggest that I contact you.  My name is Gera Exire LaTour and I have been very active in the Twin Cities home brewing community since 2004.  Some of the ways I show my love of beer:

  • National ranked Beer Judging Certification Program (BJCP) judge with a Mead Endorsement (one of first six people to take this exam).
  • Since 2006, I have organized BJCP exam prep classes.  I have taught over 150 people locally how to judge beer.  Many have gone on to brew at craft breweries or start their own breweries, such as Lucid and Fulton.
  • Active on the Minnesota Home Brewers Association (MBHA) Board, including President 2007-2008 and currently the Treasurer.
  • Organized home brew contests for the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, Beer Dabbler, MN Craft Beer Week, and others.
  • Presented on beer judging and brewing history for the Minnesota History Center, Minnesota Renaissance Festival, Chop & Brew, Chopped Liver, Inc. Beer Fests, and other events.  I have also given brewing demos for Teach a Friend to Home Brew.
  • Organized a pub crawl and brewery tour for the 2010 American Homebrewers Association National Convention.
  • Designed posters, t-shirts, bottle labels for various events.
  • Won many medals and ribbons for home brewing.

Other information:
  • I have been brewing since 2004.
  • I am active with the Minnesota Home Brewers Association.
  • My next events are organizing contests for the 8th Annual Byggvir's Big Beer Cup at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, the 5th Annual Home Brew Contest for the Summer Beer Dabbler, and hopefully helping with the first annual home brew contest for Midwest Supplies.
  • I tend to brew and have won medals for my eclectic beers.  One of my favorites is a Mild with Cocoa and Cardamom.

I would really like to be involved with your show.  My personal belief is that brewing and contests should be fun and I try very hard to give new judges the tools they need to provide brewers with helpful feedback.  I also like to show that home brewing does not have to be super technical or exacting.

I have attached photos of me at various events.  Let me know if you would like to chat or if I can send you any additional information.  Cheers!
