MHBA/SPHBC/JAB/PFC/PHC (MN)/ Members-

Please contact your  State Senator and State Congressman and ask them to support the following bills currently being introduced in the house and senate:

House (HF2999)

Senate (SF2604)

Here’s a website to help you find out the names of your state legislators:  http://www.gis.leg.mn/OpenLayers/districts/

Currently in Minnesota Law, homebrew is not allowed to be legally transported outside of the home – not to competitions, not to club meetings, not even to your next door neighbor’s house.  See below for more info.

This should probably be posted on the MhBA website also – whoever’s in charge of that.

Dear [NAME]-

As one of your constituents, I am writing to ask you to vote in favor of [House/Senate] Bill [HF2999/SF2604].  I am a Minnesota home brewer, and was recently informed that Minnesota state law does not allow me to share the product of my hobby beyond the threshold of my own home’s door.  This is an antiquated law, and should be changed.

Thanks for your consideration!

Sincerely,

Dear Minnesota AHA Members,

We are contacting Minnesota members to inform you about a legislative issue in your state. Existing Minnesota law does not explicitly allow for homebrew to be served for anything other than “family use.”

The Boreal Brewers homebrew club of Grand Rapids, Minn. has worked with Minnesota state Representative Tom Anzelc and state Senator Tom Saxhaug to introduce identical bills in the House (HF2999) and Senate (SF2604) that, if passed, would explicitly allow for homemade beer and wine to be used for organized affairs, exhibitions, tastings and competition.

The Boreal Brewers have posted a message to their website regarding the bills:

SF2604 Will be heard in the Senate Commerce Committee Noon, Wednesday March 19th! Boreal Brewers will be at the meeting. Let your legislators know that you support the bills to allow sharing homebrew at organized events! You can also let the Committee Chair, Vice Chair and Ranking Minority Member of the Commerce Committee know of your support, if your Senator is not on the committee.

The Minnesota homebrew bill talking points are in this document: Homebrewed Beer Talking Points 3-15-2014

Sincerely,

Charlie Papazian
