Alaskan Winter

Hold on, let me talk about beer before we get to talking about jerk criminals. Alaskan Brewing just released one of my favorite seasonal 6 packs: Alaskan Winter is back!

If you're an astute reader of this email, you will recall why I like this beer so much. It is brewed with spruce tips, which lend a delicate raspberry/blueberry fruitiness to compliment the light caramel malt.

I will be drinking a lot of this the coming weeks. You would be wise to do the same. Wisdom!

The Four Firkins Oakdale store was robbed. We need your help to find the criminals!

Early in the morning, Sunday, October 12th, the day after our Oakdale grand opening celebration, The Four Firkins Oakdale was burgled. The three men you see in these surveillance video images broke in and stole an undisclosed amount of property. They also did considerable damage to the store before the alarm scared them off.

The Oakdale police are still searching for the criminals and at this time we are asking for your help. If you know anything about this incident, anything at all, please contact the Oakdale police at 651-730-2767 and reference case number 2014087040. Every little bit of information helps, no matter how insignificant you might think it is.

Please don't ask our employees about the burglary, we can't offer any more information at this time.

Thank you!

Jason Alvey

Lagunitas Little Sumpin' WILD

The Sumpin' Series from Lagunitas always makes me happy. The common theme in each beer includes wheat and tons of hops. The Wild variant is also higher in alcohol (8.9% ABV) and uses the Westmalle yeast strain, which adds a clovey undercurrent to the peachy hop character.

It has been released in 6 packs this week; come get a Little Sumpin' today!

Sour Class with Nate

Nate has been busy crafting a class to tantalize your tongue and bombard your brain with the beer knowledge you desire.

Wednesday, November 5th, from 8:00pm to 9:00pm Nate will discuss the wild flavors of sour beer.
Sour, funky, Bretty... how can these words be used to describe a beer you may actually enjoy?

We'll explore how historical brewing traditions welcome sinister microscopic fiends to ferment and add twang to beer. Our learning would not be complete without an experiential component, and we shall taste a wonderful line-up of sours and wild ales:

De Proef Reinaert

- Goudenband -

Duchesse de Bourgogne

- Boon Oude Geuze -

Plus a special bonus beer or two!

Tickets are $10 (limit of 6 per person) and can be purchased online, by phone at 952-938-2847, or in person at the store. Space is limited to the first 25 people. Class will begin at 8PM and last for roughly 1 hour. Designated driver tickets are available as well for $5 (education, but no beer).

If you were part of our Indiegogo campaign and received free tickets, just give us a call to reserve your spot. You need to call, class is still limited to the first 25 people, and is first come, first served.

Tickets are just about sold out - get yours today if you want to go!

This class will be held at the St. Louis Park store, though we do plan on offering classes at the Oakdale store very soon!

Thanks, Jake!

We wanted to give another thank you to Jake for his masterful recreation of the grand opening photo taken at the St. Louis Park store a few years ago. The hand drawn piece is now used as our email header. Were you there? We certainly recognize some people in the drawing. See if you can Waldo yourself.

Darkness...

So there's this beer called Darkness brewed by a place called Surly Brewing Company.

I hear it's popular.

This year they aged it in bourbon barrels because they want my face to explode with awesome.

As best we know, both locations will be getting their deliveries on Monday, October 27th. We do not know what time of day. Oakdale will be getting significantly less than St. Louis Park.

We will announce on Twitter and Facebook when we get it.

Halloween

Good news, Freddie, they'll be back at The Firkins next week as zombies!

This year we have no idea what to expect for traffic since Halloween is on a Friday, so we've decided to stay open regular hours and have a spooky Fancy Friday. Ever want to buy beer from a zombie? Next week will be your chance!

Feel free to come dressed up, too. We may even give out prizes for best costumes. See you next week, spooky beer lovers!
