> Window to Apply: February 2-8
> Ready to test your mettle in the world's largest beer competition? The window to apply to compete in the 2015 National Homebrew Competition starts in a week. The application window runs February 2-8. The time or date applications are submitted has no influence on acceptance of entries into the competition.
>
> Though the competition has limited capacity and is more popular than ever, with a record 3,000 entrants last year, we expect that nearly everyone who wants to enter will be able to do so. To maximize your chances, be sure to select multiple judge centers when you apply.
>
> Please note:
> All applicants to register will get a confirmation of application; this initial confirmation is NOT a confirmation of actual entry into the National Homebrew Competition itself.
> All applicants will hear from us by February 17 with an alert indicating whether or not their entries have been accepted into the competition.
> We will notify you by email on February 2 when the application period opens with a link to apply. In the meantime, here is some general competition information.

Hi Gera,
The Bent Brewstillery Basement Brew Project judging will take place this coming Wednesday night. I'm still looking for a few judges to help lighten the load a little. Would you be willing to send out an email to your contacts to see if anyone would be interested? We'll start at 7pm at the Minneapolis Northern Brewer location.
Cheers,
Jeff

> Why join us?
> We can use certified judges and mead aficionados for judging and stewarding. We have a number of local BJCP-certified mead judges, but always need help. For those wanting to learn more about mead judging, this is a great competition to attend. We’ll try to pair you up with one of our experienced mead judges. Each volunteer will get an etched Domras wine tasting glass and look for some of our new SBL “crimp-less” bottle openers to be available as well. Drawings for a door prize or two will be in order. Bagels, etc. will be available before we start and snacks in between. Immediately following judging, we hold our epic post-party and oyster roast that is an event not to be missed, so if interested in helping to judge or steward, please sign up on the registration page and/or email me and come join us. We generally try to finish in one round though a few folks may have to do two small rounds (we strive for no more than 10-12 total meads per judge). BOS will coincide with the beginning of the after-party with results announced shortly thereafter.
>
>
>
> Michael Fairbrother, of Moonlight Meadery, will be joining us once again to showcase some meads as well as provide some expert evaluations,
>
>
>
> Why enter?
> You still have two weeks to enter. The cost is just $7 first entry and $6 each additional entry. Any size bottle is acceptable (meads will be served “blind” by our experienced stewards to allow for non-standard bottle shipments). We know your mead is a precious thing. You can send any number of bottles you want, but we do recommend a minimum of one 750ml, two of anything smaller, and two if carbonated to ensure a fresh bottle for the BOS round. Three are recommended for the “Other Fruit Mead” category due to a likely MiniBOS round. Ship early and we will get conditioned quickly so they are ready for competition day. Ribbons and lots of great mead-centric prizes from the Savannah Bee Company (can you say 100 lbs of regional honey!), commercial meadery products, and Savannah Homebrew Shop will be provided to winners.
>
> At this point we don’t have plans for remote drop-off locations where our club members would pick up. If entries are registered and paid for and at proper condition, however, we can accept the entries the morning of the competition (or better yet on Friday) if someone is planning to come judge from an outside area. We’ll leave that up to each club to arrange. Just let us know in advance about any special arrangements needed.

> For lodging, there are no hotels on Whitemarsh Island, which is 6-9 minutes east of downtown Savannah. A cheaper option is the Baymont Inn 2 miles west of downtown. The area is industrial but the hotel is nice and clean, and $85. Here is some info from Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60814-d563256-Reviews-Baymont_Inn_… . There are nicer (and pricier) hotels downtown in the $150-200 range with easier access to downtown activities. About a year ago I bought some agave nectar which appears to have problems
with fermentation.
The jugs have a lot number of AA062013, with a 'best if used before date' of
06/06/15
Please let me know if you purchased one of the gallons of nectar.
Thanks!

The Mankato Beer Expo is right around the corner on Saturday, January 17th. They are looking for people to volunteer to help with the event. (Checking IDs/putting on wristbands/refilling water/cleaning up/getting ice, etc.) Volunteers usually work a few hours and have time to still enjoy the event. Please email Ilya if you are interested.-- The 3rd Annual Mankato Craft Beer Expo will take place January 17, 2015 from 2-6 p.m. The expo will showcase the offerings of craft breweries here in Minnesota, as well as all over the United States. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample beers from over 40 different craft breweries in a commemorative sampling glass. In addition to this, they can enjoy educational seminars throughout the day covering subjects such as Food Pairing, Homebrewing, and the History of Brewing in Minnesota. With brewery and distributor representatives on hand to answer questions, attendees will be able to have an enjoyable and educational experience learning about beer, its components and flavors. Live music, food, various beer related vendors will be available as well.
