Subject: [mba] Bucket-O-Honey
Greetings brewers and mead makers. We have an opportunity to acquire a
decent quantity of honey at a reasonable price and thought it might help
some of you make a batch or two (or three) of mead. Dave Schroeder is
former president of the MHBA (Minnesota Hobby Beekeepers Association) and
has honey available in 5 gallon buckets (60 pounds). He will sell honey to
us for $120 per five gallons or approximately $24 per gallon. Ive used his
honey before and know it is high quality. Dave is selling his honey
rapidly and will likely be out of stock by early February. Im not trying
to rush or use force but I really enjoy making mead. You should too.
To keep this a low effort project here is how to proceed.
1. Decide you want a bucket or two
2. Send me a check by January 15 to the address below.
3. Make the check for $120 out to Dave Schroeder.
4. Include phone or e-mail address for pickup confirmation.
5. If you want 1/3 bucket or ½ bucket, buy a bucket and find someone
willing to share.
Any other questions, call or e-mail
The Fine print: I will exchange your check for the honey and will keep it
inside until you arrange for pick up. I am not able to front you for your
bucket-o-honey. Im terribly sorry but I dont tweet, twit, text, or accept
pay-pal. I do not have the ability to split buckets. I cannot read your
mind. If you want a bucket, send me a check.
Sincerely,
Rick Oftel
MHBA Previous officer and general nice guy.

The Brewer's Barrel
I confirmed yesterday that NB has bought MW.
Seems the 2 guys from Chicago who owned MW were more interested in flipping
businesses than in really being involved in homebrewing.
Someone at MW thinks that NB will be more of a 'specialty shop' and MW will
be the warehouse shop.
Interesting! I'm sure this will start tons of email flying around the
region.

They have 10+ episodes in the can including trips to Avery, Stone, Lost Abbey, New Belgium, etc...
Fellow craft beer lovers,
Join us in celebrating the first official Minnesota Beer Geeks Day. It is a day to raise a pint to celebrate the first ever Nationally Syndicated show about craft beer, Beer Geeks, which debuts all across the county in September. Beer Geeks will be seen coast to coast in cities from Boston to Chicago to Denver to Portland, and just about every place in between. But so far, no television station in Minnesota has signed up. Please help us to insure that Minnesotans get to see this show that takes its beer loving viewers deep inside the great and growing world of craft beer. The breweries! The characters! The food and beer pairings! The passion! The camaraderie!
Don't miss out. Tomorrow, on Beer Geeks day, tell Minnesota TV stations you want your Beer Geeks. On their air!
We need a groundswell. So please contact the program directors of Minnesota's TV stations right away. And get your friends and fellow beer lovers to join you in bringing Beer Geeks to Minnesota, which we all know is one of the craft beer capitols of the country,

Good Afternoon JABers,
We are set for the Big Brew Day on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at the Excelsior Brewing Company. The only issue is that we have yet to have anyone commit to bringing their brewing system to set up and brew there... which kind of defeats the whole purpose of the event! I understand that a lot of us (myself included) do not have brewing systems that are conducive to transporting. So unless someone steps up... we may be cancelling or switching it into a general social event. I know Excelsior said they would want us to come out either way, but who wouldn't want a bunch of rabid beer drinkers at their establishment...
So if someone is willing to step up and bring their system please let me know.

Hey friends,
As some of you may know Better Beer Society and The Homebrew Chef Sean Z. Paxton are collaborating on an educational beer dinner this Friday, April 26th at 6pm at Republic in Uptown.
We only have roughly 20 tickets left for this event, and I wanted to make sure that every homebrewer at least knew about this dinner, so that we can get the right people attending, ones who will really appreciate it.
I am wondering (if nothing else is pressing) if you would be willing to share this info to your members, through your social media channels or websites.
I have attached both the poster art, as well as the menu, which is impressive as always and expected for a Sean Paxton dinner.
Cheers, and thank you. Hope to see you on Friday!
~Rob

The Lagunitas Brewing Company is sponsoring a homebrew contest exclusively for AHA sanctioned home-brew clubs in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (This means us!).
The winning homebrewer (along with 3 others chosen at amongst the entire contest) will win a paid trip to California this coming May 29th-31st to visit the Lagunitas Brewery and have the opportunity to brew a beer (which will be sold back in our Minneapolis/St. Paul market)! The competition is looking for a beer that 'consumers would enjoy drinking'; no lagers, fruit/spices or herbs can be used and must be made with an American yeast.
If your interested, here's what you'll need to do: Bring some bottles to share at our next JAB meeting (which is on March 3rd at The Great Tim Roets house in Chaska). We will then vote on (as a club) the one best beer fitted for this competition. The winning brewer will then need to supply a six-pack (to be used for official judging) before May 3rd, 2013.
To look at the official details and guidelines, visit this url: http://db.tt/XrZyEVRm
Let me know if you have any questions!
-Ben
I am new to your mailing list. I am interested in joining your club, but I
am not sure and how to join up or who to contact. I have 15+ years of
brewing experience and I do all-grain. I also make mead and cider.
Thanks
Erik Nelson
