Subject: [mba] Bucket-O-Honey
Greetings brewers and mead makers. We have an opportunity to acquire a
decent quantity of honey at a reasonable price and thought it might help
some of you make a batch or two (or three) of mead. Dave Schroeder is
former president of the MHBA (Minnesota Hobby Beekeepers Association) and
has honey available in 5 gallon buckets (60 pounds). He will sell honey to
us for $120 per five gallons or approximately $24 per gallon. Ive used his
honey before and know it is high quality. Dave is selling his honey
rapidly and will likely be out of stock by early February. Im not trying
to rush or use force but I really enjoy making mead. You should too.
To keep this a low effort project here is how to proceed.
1. Decide you want a bucket or two
2. Send me a check by January 15 to the address below.
3. Make the check for $120 out to Dave Schroeder.
4. Include phone or e-mail address for pickup confirmation.
5. If you want 1/3 bucket or ½ bucket, buy a bucket and find someone
willing to share.
Any other questions, call or e-mail
The Fine print: I will exchange your check for the honey and will keep it
inside until you arrange for pick up. I am not able to front you for your
bucket-o-honey. Im terribly sorry but I dont tweet, twit, text, or accept
pay-pal. I do not have the ability to split buckets. I cannot read your
mind. If you want a bucket, send me a check.
Sincerely,
Rick Oftel

The Lagunitas Brewing Company is sponsoring a homebrew contest exclusively for AHA sanctioned home-brew clubs in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (This means us!).
The winning homebrewer (along with 3 others chosen at amongst the entire contest) will win a paid trip to California this coming May 29th-31st to visit the Lagunitas Brewery and have the opportunity to brew a beer (which will be sold back in our Minneapolis/St. Paul market)! The competition is looking for a beer that 'consumers would enjoy drinking'; no lagers, fruit/spices or herbs can be used and must be made with an American yeast.
If your interested, here's what you'll need to do: Bring some bottles to share at our next JAB meeting (which is on March 3rd at The Great Tim Roets house in Chaska). We will then vote on (as a club) the one best beer fitted for this competition. The winning brewer will then need to supply a six-pack (to be used for official judging) before May 3rd, 2013.

Hey All!
Hope you have been having a good month despite the crap-tastic weather we have been having! Just wanted to update everyone on what we have planned for the next month.
1) Next meeting is this Friday 3/8/13 at Tim Roets' place at around 6:30. This month Tim will give us a brief talk about meads, since his is our resident mead guru.
2) Shirts! We are close to ordering our new Dickies JAB workshirts. Ideally bring money to pay for them ahead of time so we have enough money for our order. We will also be taking more orders at the meeting if you haven't contacted us yet about them. JAB will be springing for the embroidered names so think about what you want on the shirt! If you can't make the meeting but want a shirt (or2!) e-mail Tim or Mike B.
3) Belgian Brew Off! Get brewing for our May Belgian beer extravaganza. Tim handed out a bunch of free yeasts and Candi sugar at the last meeting to get people started. I think he has a few more for this meeting. I'd like to see a lot of us brew up some cool different Belgian styles and see what happens. I just brewed mine yesterday!
4) The JABBarel is here! Andrew picked it up this last week and is busy keeping it hydrated until we can introduce it to our Bier de Garde. I think we have enough beer brewed up to fill it, based on the people who have already done so, but we'll do a final count and see if we can use any more over the next week. There is also the chance that one or more of us may not have a "clean" batch, so we need a little extra in case--as well as some to top up the angel's share if needed. If you didn't get in on the action this batch, we will be using it again for a second round later, so tell us if you are interested! I'd like as many Jabbers as possible to be involved in this experiment.
5) Lagunitas competition! Lagunitas is putting on a competition to get to brew your recipe there! Only one entry per club, and they need a whole 6-pack for this. Bring a couple bottles, growler, etc for us to taste at the meeting and the best will go on to the competition! They want an American ale yeast and something easy to drink. No spices or flavorings. Brew with the crazy guys from Lagunitas and bring us some brewcred!
